Council wins prestigious award
Rains Junior High Student
Council was invited to he one of
three schools across the state to
be a “Profile School" at the State
Convention November 21-22 m
Austin This was a prestigious
award for the local council, and
the criteria used for this selec-
tion was the council's participa-
tion at local, district and state
levels Our council has received
the Outstanding Student Council
Award the last five years. The
council has been Secretary
School and is the current Presi-
dent School for districts 4 and
I9 I hey will co-host the Spring
Forum with the Sulphur Springs
Middle School March 4, 2(X)4,
at the Hopkins County Civic
Center They have participated
in summer leadership work-
shops and attended state conven-
tions the past five years Stu-
dents will present to the school
board their state presentation at
the next board meeting.
In addition. Katheryn Ruther-
ford received a five year pin and
Billie Ihompson received a fif-
teen year pm for being student
council sponsors.

The Rains Lady Cat basket-
ball team improved their record
to .1-1 Tuesday night, November
21, with a 72-61 win over the
Sulphur Springs Lady Cats
Leading the charge for the
Rains Lady Cats was Kalcy
Hoover. Hoover shot 11-12 front
the field and 1-6 from the free-
throw line on her way to 27
point* for the night She also
gathered five rebounds and five
steals
Merideth Runion and Alisha
Thomas also had a big hand in
the Lady Cats' win Runion fin-
ished with 19 points, six
rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Thomas finished with 14 points,
one rebound, five assists and
three steals
Rains jumped out to a 20-11
lead by the end of the first quar-
ter Sulphur Springs’ Brandi
Crouch, who led all scorers with
42 points, pulled SS withm 4
points of the Lady Cats a couple
of times in the second quarter
before the Lady Cats took a 47-
10 halftime lead
The l ady Cats managed to
build several sizable leads dur-
ing l he second half; however,
each time Sulphur Springs
answered with a run of tlieir own
to pull back to within striking
distance
After having their lead cut
down to one. Rams went on a
12-2 run to take command of the
game
During their first four games
of the season, the Lady Cats
have outscored their opponents
284-177, averaging nearly 71
points per game while limiting
their opponent to just 44 points
The Lady Cats have managed
their points on 72 percent shoot-
ing, connecting on 60-84 of their
shots from the floor
Runion and Thomas have
paced Rams to 28 percent shoot-
ing from beyond the 4-point arc
So far this season the Lady
Cats have a plus five in the take-
away department. They have
come away with 65 steals while
committing just 60 turnovers.

for the second six weeks are Ariel Rojas, Trenton Worley, Jacob Sin-
gleman, Jon Davis and Caroline Vargas These student were nomi-
nated by bus drivers for exceptional behavior or following rules.

The Rains Lady Cat freshman
basketball team kept their record
spotless Tuesday night, Novem-
ber 21, with a 41-19 win over
Sulphur Springs. They are now
4-0 for the season.
Megan Davis has led the
Lady Cats in scoring in each of
their wins
In the win over Sulphur
Spnngs. she led all scorers with
11 points. In a 60-18 win over
Princeton, she again led all scor-
ers with 11 points And in a 61-
19 win over the Mount Pleasant
Lady Tigers she shared high
honors with Lauren Rasberry
