2001 RAINS
COUNTY FAIR
GENERAL RULES
September 10-15,2001
Phone 473-2412 for Information
1. The Creative Arts Exhibit is open
to residents of Rains County and sur-
rounding counties.
2. Exhibits should be brought to the
fairgrounds on Saturday, Sept.8, from
9 a m. to 1 p.m. with the exception of
Baked Goods and Horticulture, which
should be brought from 7:45-9:00
Monday, Sept. 11. No item can be

3. Judging will be Monday, Sept. 10,
at 10: 00 a.m. and will not be open to
the public.
4. You may exhibit in each class, but
only one entry of a kind in the class.
(Example: you may enter one jar of
snap green beans and one jar of
whole green beans, but not two jars
whole green beans.) Sets will be
allowed as one exhibit.
5. Ribbon awards will be given to
the first, second, and third-place
entries in each class. Every entry may
not merit a ribbon. Open and Youtn
Division will be judged on its own
merit.
6. Grand Champion and Reserve
Champion rosettes will be awarded in
each division. These two will be select-
ed from all the blue ribbon winners of
each division.
7. Each entry must be labeled with
name, address, identification of the
article or product to be entered. No
item may be left until officially regis-
tered with the division chairman.
8. Items will be on exhibit through-
out the fair. We reserve the right to one
slice or piece of baked goods and the
recipe for the exhibit, and the right to
publish the recipes in the local news-
paper. All items are to be picked up
Saturday night at 9:30, Sunday from
1:00-2:00 p.m., or Monday 9-10 a.m.
9. Professionals will be allowed to
exhibit. A professional is classified as
one who has sold $200 or more per
year. These will be judged separately
from the amateurs. Only the Fine Arts
Division will be allowed to sell their
exhibits.
10. The Creative Arts Division will
exercise all due diligence to prevont
damage or loss of articles. Articles will
be entered at the owner's risk.
11. Articles entered must never
have been entered for judging in the
Rains County Fair previously. In Baked
Goods, the same recipe must never
have been entered by the exhibitor
before.
12. Division chairmen are to be con-
tacted for any special considerations

DIVISION

1. Each entry must be labeled with
exhibitor's name, address and class to
be entered.
2. Each class will be judged sepa-
rately.

by the exhibitor.

County Fair
3 No soiled or unfinished articles
will be accepted for exhibit.
4 You may exhibit only one quilt in
each class (Example: one patchwork
quilt and one applique quilt, but not
two patchwork quilts.)

BAKED GOODS
DIVISION
Chairman: MILDRED ROBBINS
RULES: .
1. All baked goods must be brought
in on Monday from 7:45 to 9:00 a.m.
2. Exhibits must be in disposable
paper plates and covered with clear
wrap.
3. All food entries must be labeled
with exhibitor’s name, address, name
of product, class and whether it’s adult
or youth.
4. The recipe (typed or printed on a
3x5 index card) must be attached to
entry.
5. Exhibits will consist of three each
of rolls, cookies, bars, muffins, dough-
nuts, tarts, etc., one whole pie, 1/4
cake, or one loaf of bread (to eliminate
waste).
6. Baked goods must have been
made by exhibitor.
7. No mixes will be accepted
except in the Special Cake class.
8. Cakes will be in two categories:
(a) those from scratch (b) those made
from a mix plus one or more special
ingredients
9. Baked goods will be tasted by the
judges.
10. Exhibitor must not have entered
the same recipe in any previous Rains
County Fair.
11. Decorated cakes may have ether
forms as a base cither than “cake.”
12. Decorated Baked Items class
will be judged on appearance and the
quality of icing and decorations. They
will not be cut and sampled.
13. Exhibitors may enter one item in
each category under each class listed

or Kerr 1/2-pint, pint or quart jars. Jelly
may be in jelly glasses.
2. Each entry must have a label
attached with name of product,
exhibitor’s name and address
3. An entry will consist of one jar,
and it will not be opened.
4. Jars and lids should be clean,
and lids must be standard and must
have rings.
5. Entries will be judged on the con-
tainer, label, pack, color and texture.
6. Special awards will be given by
Ball and Kerr for products using their
lids and jars

FINE ARTS
DIVISION
Chairman: KIM HARRIS
RULES:
1. Works must be framed and have
wire hangers. Artists are responsible
for any special props for display of
their work.
2. Artists are responsible for deliv-
ery and pick-up of their work.
3. No work may be removed from
display until Saturday evening after
9:00.
4. The Fair Association will not be
responsible for theft, loss or damage
of artwork or props.
5. Artwork entered in previous
Rains County Fairs will not be accept-
ed.
6. Judges' decisions are final. Artists
are responsible for placing their work
in the category of their choice.
7. Artwork may be sold from the
Advanced Division only! Artists are
responsible for pricing their work after
the judging. There will be a 20% sales
commission charged on any artwork
sold as the result of display at the fair.
The proceeds from the sales commis-
sion will be paid to the Rains Fair
Association. The purchaser will not be
permitted to remove the work until the
closing of the fair. Artists are responsi-
ble for sales tax and delivery of work
to the purchaser and payment of the
sales commission to the Fair Asso-
ciation.
8. There can be no more than two
entries in each category.
9. Cover soilable items in protective
see-thru cover.

name and address.
4. Photos must have been taken in
the last 12 months.

rame, ceramics, crocheted, etc.)
3. Protect soilable items with a see-
through cover.
4. If item is to be hung, provide hook
or wire fastener for hanging.
5. Each entry must be labeled with
exhibitor's name, address, class and
description of item.
6. You may exhibit in each class, but
only one entry of a kind in the class.
(Example: one Christmas wallhanging
and one Halloween wallhanging, but
not two Christmas wallhangings.)
7. Judging will be based on con-
struction, degree of difficulty and
uniqueness.
