at youth tournament
by Marianne Eubanks
Rains County Leader
On Saturday, May 13, tempera-
tures never rose above the low 80’s.
Combined with a cool breeze, it
made the perfect day to host the
Annual Law Enforcement Youth
Fishing Tournament “Hooked on
Fishing, Not on Drugs.”
There was a fabulous turnout of
236 registered contestants ranging
in age from one to 16 years old and
69 contestants turned in a total of
370 pounds of fish. Contestants
were not limited to the types of fish
and caught everything including
channel cats, drums and hawgs.
Gary Dugan, Texas Parks and
Wildlife, announced the winner
with the largest stringer of fish
caught by Corey Christian of Point
for a total of 28.1 pounds of catfish
and one drum. Winners of the draw-
ings and prize packages were two
days free in Thousand Trails, Billy
Rhodes, Matt Brummitt, Joshua
Busby and Rebecca Sulphur; belt
buckle donated by Senator David
Cain, C’Era Tomerlin; tent, Pam
Jacks; small camping package, L.D.
Kearney; and grand prize camping
package, Morgan Watkins.
The day was filled with lots of
fun and excitement for all involved.
More than 800 hot dogs were roast-
ed along with beans-n-fixings and
plenty of cold drinks served by an
army of volunteers and the police
explorers post.
Casting Kids winners were Levi
Laningham, Brandi Jacks, Cheryl

needed to try out their new tent and
