Wildcats see season end with sweep
By TREY HILL
Rains County Leader staff
The Rains Wildcats’ baseball
season came to an end Saturday
afternoon. After advancing to the
playoffs as the third-place repre-
sentative for District 10-3A, the
Rains Wildcats were eliminated
in two games by the Prosper
Eagles in the bi-district round of
the playoffs.
In a best-of-three series held at
Plano High School, Prosper took
advantage of a pair of Wildcat
miscues and scored 3 unearned
runs on the way to a 6-2 win over
the Wildcats in game one on Fri-
day night.
Prosper had threatened to score
earlier in the game but a heads-up
play by pitcher Kyle Kirby caught
' a Prosper base runner leaving
the base following a close play
at third base to extinguish the
threat.
However, a misplayed ground-
er to second, plus a mishandled
throw to first base opened the
door for the Prosper offense. By
the time the Wildcats recorded
the third out of the inning Prosper
had 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 Wildcat
errors.
The Wildcats managed to pull
to within 2 with a run in the top
of the fourth inning making the
score 3-1. The Wildcats answered
another Prosper run with a run
in the top of the sixth inning to
make the score 4-2, but Prosper
followed" with 2 runs in the bot-
tom half of the inning for the final
scoring margin.
On Saturday afternoon, Pros-
per showed the power of their
offense in a 17-0 win to close out
the series with the Wildcats.
They finished with 17 runs on
11 hits and eight Wildcat miscues.
Eight of their hits were extra-base
hits including four doubles, a tri-
ple, and home runs by Hunter Nix
and Ted Mills.
The Wildcats finish the season
with a record of 15-10. They fin-
ished third in District 10-3A with
a district record of 6-4.
