Bathe to speak at Rotary Club
Guest speaker at the Lake Fork Rotary Club on Wednesday will
be Jim Bathe, Steamboat Shores Homeowner Association President.
Bathe will speak on his recent visits and relief assistance to
Louisiana's Hurricane Katrina victims. Lake Fork Rotary meets
each Wednesday at noon at the Lake Fork Baptist Church.
Chamber of Commerce luncheon
The Rains County Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting will
be Thursday, September 15 at 12:00 noon at the Rose Community Cen-
ter in Emory. All members are invited to attend to elect officers to serve
for the next year.
42 Domino tournament Sept. 16
All 42 domino players make your plans now to join the fun at
the 42 domino tournament to be held Friday, Sept. 16, at 6:00 p.m.
at the Rains County Fairgrounds Pavilion. You must register by 5:00
p.m. that day. The sign-up will be held at the Rains County Fair-
grounds near the concession booths. There is no entry fee. Awards
will be presented to the first and second place teams.

Distinguished Alumni Award
The Rains High School Student Council is sponsoring the first
Annual Distinguished Alumni Award for the purpose of honoring
outstanding alumni who have made contributions to their career and
their community by exhibiting outstanding leadership, character,
and service. Potential awardees must be nominated and a nomina-
tion form must be completed. Nomination forms are available at the
high school office, from the district web page (www.rains.kl2.tx.us),
or by e-mail from Mrs. Harper (harperd@rains.kl2.tx.us). Nomi-
nees must have graduated from or been enrolled at a Rains County
High School at least 10 years ago (1995 graduates or older).
Please complete the nomination form by September 16, 2005
and return it to Mrs. Harper at Rains High School, 1651 W. US
HWY 69, Emory, Texas, 75440. Notification of The Distinguished
Alumni Award will occur on September 19th. The alumni who are
selected will be honored during the homecoming parade September
26 and at the Homecoming Football game September 30; therefore,

Bingo has moved to every Saturday starting at 6:00 p.m. at
Southwest Rains V.F.D. in Flats one mile from the Tawakoni Spill-

Indoor thrift sale
Rains County Good Samaritans Thrift Shop will have a sale in
its air-conditioned building behind the public library on Hwy 69 N.
Saturday, Sept. 17, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Most items are $2 or
below. Funds go to operate the center. The sale will offer clothes for
all ages, small household goods and knick-knacks. New stock
almost every week.
Alba-Golden HS blood drive
Stewart Regional Blood Center will have a blood drive at Alba-
Golden High School, Hwy. 69 N, on Ides,day, September 20, from
9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Anyone who is in generally good health,
weighs at least HO pounds, and is at least 17 years old may be eli-
gible to donate life saving blood. Please bring a valid driver’s
license and eat a good meal before donating.

For those-w ho missed the first girl scout recruitment night, here
is a second chance. A second recruitment night will be held <?n Tues-
day, September 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the elementary school

Evacuees medical needs

three weeks to raise money to purchase prescription and over-the-
counter medicine and other medical and hygiene necessities for the
local victims of Hurricane Katrina. All the money raised will stay in
Rains County. The kettles will be located at Brookshire’s and
Terry’s Furniture and other locations.
Help needed for Katrina victims
Anyone wishing to help with water, canned goods, or non-per-
ishable items for the victims of Hurricane Katrina may drop off your
much needed donations at Apostolics of Emory, 1086 North State
Hwy. 19, Emory. Rev. John Franklin has made arrangements to take
all donations to Louisiana on September 12. Money may be donat-
ed to the Red Cross or you can leave a donation at the church. Make
checks or money orders payable to Washington Parish Fire Depart-
ment #6, Re: Hurricane Relief.
In times like these all Americans must pull together to help one
another in the wake of such devastation. If you have any questions

Lake Fork Baptist relief effort
Lake Fork Baptist Church will be utilizing its facilities as a
staging area for food, water and other supplies for the Hurricane
Katrina Relief effort.
Volunteers will be available to receive items Monday-Friday
9:00 a.m. - noon and 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., and Saturday 10:00 a.m. -
2:00 p.m.
Engraved brick
Anyone who attended any of the Rains County Schools, be it
you or a loved one, is invited to purchase an engraved brick at a cost
of $50.00. The Rains High School Student council is selling bricks
that can be engraved with your name, your Rains County school
name, an optional logo, and your year of graduation. This project is
designed to unify the alumni of Rains County schools.
We currently have the beginnings of the Wildcat Alumni walk-
way in place in front of the high school, come by and see it. If you
would like to purchase a brick for the walkway please contact Deena

R.Y.S.A. basketball sign up
R.Y.S.A. baskci'uall sign ups will be held at the fieldhoiisc this
year. There will be no forms sent home from school or available to
pick up around town as in years past. Sign up fee will be $30 and
will need to be paid at the time of sign up. Your child will also be
sized for a jersey at this time. The dates and time for sign up will be
as follows: October 8, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon; October 16, 3:00
p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; October 22, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; October 29,
4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
These will be the only days to sign up. If you have any ques-

CODY COMMUNITY/SCHOOL REUNION - The
Cody community/school reunion will be held at the Point Civic
Center on September 17 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The meal will be

1966 CLASS REUNION - There will be a gathering of
class members at the Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church's family life cen-
ter Saturday, Sept. 17, at 2:00 p.m. Come and visit!
NEW HOLMES SCHOOL REUNION- The New
Holmes School Reunion will be held Saturday, September 24, at
11:30 a.m. at the Smyrna Church. Fried chicken, ice, drinks, paper
and plastic goods will be furnished. Bring a side dish or dessert and
your favorite school stories and pictures. We look forward to a day
of visiting with childhood friends.
LYNCH SCHOOL REUNION - The Lynch School and
community reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Point
Community Center. Bring a covered dish, and enjoy lunch and vis-
iting with friends and neighbors.
’60 CLASS REUNION — The class of 1960 is having its 45th
year reunion on October 8 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m at the Rose Com-
munity Center in Emory. They welcome anyone to come by and
renew old acquaintances.
