DA waiting on autopsy
in death of 14-month old
Erath County District
Attorney John Terrill is waiting
for autopsy reports from the
Tarrant County Medical
Examiners office before taking
further action on the death of a
14-month old child.
The child, who lived in the
southern part of the county near
Carlton, was with Billy Bertand,
57, when the incident occurred.
Bertand, the child's great uncle,
claimed that the child fell out of
the playpen, but has been
charged with “non-accidental”
injury to a child - a first degree
felony.
According to Terrill, the
Sheriffs office, in conjunction
with the Texas Rangers, are
about to wrap up their
investigation of the case, but the
autopsy reports may take a while
to complete.
“It could be a month to six
weeks before we see them,”
Temll said.
Charges for Bertand could be
bumped to murder once the
investigation in completed.
Bertand remains in the Erath
County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
