SHAFER
Delbert L. Shafer, 89, of
Dublin, died Monday, Jan. 30.
2006 at Stephenville Nursing
Home.
He was bom Dee. 7, 1916 in
Tuxedo to Amos Franklin
Shafer and Martha Jane
DeBusk.
He was married to Neda
Grace Sparks in Dublin Oct. 7,
1939.
Shafer was a retired assistant
postmaster and director of
Dublin Housing Authority,
A member of First Baptist
Church of Dublin, he was a
former Deacon and Sunday
School Superintendent. He was
a member of the American Legion and headed the Dublin
Goodfellows organization for many years.
Shafer was a director of the Dublin Live Oak Cemetery
Association, fonner member of the Dublin school board, member of
Dublin Lions and Rotary Clubs, fonner city judge, served as a Dublin
volunteer firemen and president of the Little League Association. He
was a charter member of the Dublin Historical Society, member of
the Erath County Appraisal District and local weather observer for
U.S. Weather Bureau for many years.
He served in the Army in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Martha
Shafer: his brothers, James, Weldon and Everett Shafer; his sister,
Estell Swindle: his grandson. Josh Greenway and nephew, Stanley
Shafer.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters. Pat Brewer of
Brownwood and Mary Peacock of Stephenville and Linda Greenway
of Alexander; one son, Mike Shafer of Stephenville; to sisters, Ivie
Batson of Dublin and Ruby Pratt of DeLeon; by 11 grandchildren and
12 great-grandchildren.
Family visitation will he from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at Harrell
Memorial Chapel with burial in Dublin Live Oak Cemetery, Dean
Bradley and Willard Mann officiating.
Pallbearers will be Don Peacock, Gary Greenway, Donnie Brewer,
Tim Ray, Cody Arnold, Dairen Peacock. Honorary pallbearers will
be Mack Farrar, Cleo LaBaume, Ray LaBraume, Wyette Jumey and
Bud McKinney.
The family has requested that memorials be made to Dublin
Goodfellows or Dublin Historical Society.

died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 at
Harris Methodist Hospital in
Stephenville.
He was born in Downey on
April 13, 1929 to Ponnie
Edward Smith and Pearl
Brinson.
He was married to Neva Bell
Hodges Hancock.
A retired test board
technician for Southwestern
Bell Telephone, Smith was a
veteran of the U.S. Air Force,
serving in Korea and was a
member of the First United
Methodist Church, a member
of the VFW, American Legion
and Gideons.
He is survived by his wife;
five daughters, Kaylene Smith
of Austin, Neta Long and Reta
Dugan, both of Fort Worth,
Keta Smith of Liberty Hill and
Glenda Burks of Odessa; three
sons, Joe Smith of Hasse and
Johnny Smith of Proctor, Mike
Hancock of College Station;
three sisters, Eunice Harbin of
North Richland Hills, Juanita
Erwin of Stephenville and
Paulene Hunter of Mt.
Pleasant, PA: one brother,
Edward Smith of Muskogee,
OK, and by 12 grandchildren
and one great-granddaughter.

p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at
First United Methodist Church
in Dublin with burial in Proctor

Jane Walters, 72, of Dublin,
died at her home Friday, Jan. 27,
2006.
She was a homemaker and
stay at home mom. She had lived
in Duncanville for 33 years
before moving to Dublin 11 years
ago. She was a seamstress and
was well known for making the
best "Barbie" clothes ever as well
as being involved in ceramics.
She was a member of
Duncanville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her
husband, Scott Walters; one son,
Dick Walters of Fort Worth; two
daughters, Debbie Gamer of
Bedford and Dena Smith of
North Richland Hills; 15
grandchildren and 17 great-
grandchildren; one brother Hugh
D. Craig of Gun Barrel City and
two sisters, Dorothy Inderton of
Athens and Helen Jenkins of San
Angelo.
Funeral services were
Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 in the
David Clayton Funeral Home
in Duncanville with interment in
, Little Bethel Cemetery.

FFA Boosters to have fund raiser
The Dublin FFA Chapter and Booster Club will be hosting a brisket
dinner at the high school this Friday. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for
kids 10 years and under. Serving will start at 5 p.m. and continue until 8
p.m. Take out trays will be available. The Dublin basketball teams will be
hosting Eastland so come on out and support the FFA Chapter and the
Lions.
Tickets will be available at the cafeteria door or may be purchased in
advance from any FFA member.
Carlton VFD to hold membership meeting
The Carlton Volunteer Fire Department will hold its Annual Meeting
of the Membership Friday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Carlton Community
Center. The purpose of this meeting is to elect two directors and to give
the membership a financial statement of the corporation. Registration will
begin at 6 p.m. and those registering for the first time are asked to arrive
at that time. Annual dues are $1 and members must reside and/or own
property within a 25-mile radius of Carlton proper.
Proctor Community to hold fundraiser
A fundraiser will be held with all proceeds going to area fire
departments. There will be supper, entertainment and an auction. The
fundraiser will be held at the Proctor Community Center Saturday, Feb.
4th at 6 p.m.
The hamburger supper will be $5 and the auction will follow.
Entertainment will be Durwood Strube and Friends.
DeLeon Lions to serve pancakes
DeLeon Lions Club will have a pancake supper as a fund raiser op
Tuesday, Feb. 7 when the Dublin Lions travel to DeLeon to face the
Bearcats.
The supper will be from 5-7 p.m. at the DeLeon Methodist Church.
Proctor offers men’s fellowship
Seekers, a fellowship of men, will be meeting the first and*third
Tuesday of each month in the Evans Farm Show Bam. The Bible studies
will begin at 7 p.m., and all are welcome.
To get to the Evans Farm, take 1476 south from Proctor and turn on
CR 332.
Carlton Cookbook fundraiser
The Carlton Volunteer Fire Department is currently selling cookbooks
in a effort to raise money for the department. The books are filled with
recipes contributed by local Carlton residents.
The cookbooks are $ 15 a piece or can be purchased with a CD for $ 18.
The books are available at The Dublin Citizen, the Hamilton Herald-
News, CVS Pharmacy - Stephenville, End Zone Pizza - Stephenville and
Littlejohn Produce - Stephenville. Tim Bryson of the Carlton Fire

Oil and gas lease seminar set
The College of Agriculture and Human Science at Tarleton State
University will host an educational seminar Thursday, Feb. 9 from 7 p.m.
to 9 p.m. for anyone involved with oil and gas leases.
The seminar will take place in the Dr. Jesse Tackett Auditorium
(Room 113) of the Joe Autiy Agriculture Building at Tarleton.
