Ozella “Cookie” Farris
FARRIS
Ory O/ella Karris, 98,
Dublin's first city
councilwortian, died Tuesday,
April 13, 2004, in Merrill
Gardens Assisted Living in
Denton.
Bom March 29, 1906 in the
Comyn community, she was the
daughter of Oscar Oswald
Blanton and l.unettie Ha/zard.
She was married to Marvin
Karris in 1926. He preceded her
in death in 1983.
Mrs. Karris had worked at
Bibhy's variety store then later
at Branum's variety store and
was a homemaker as well as a
member of the Dublin Garden
Club, women's auxiliary of the
Veteran's of foreign War,
Merrymakers club, Christian
Woman's fellowship, charter
member of the Dublin Historical
Society and was a member of
the first Christian Church,
where she taught Sunday school
for 50 years.
She was featured in a special
story in the Dublin Citizen
during March - women's history
month - as one of the women
who made a difference in
Dublin's history.
She is survived by one sister,
Modellc Coan of Decatur.

p.m. Saturday, April 17 at the
first Christian Church in Dublin
with burial in Old Dublin
Memorial Park.

James Harvey Gain, 91, of
Keller, died Wednesday, April 7,
2004. in Mimosa Manor in
Keller. j.
He was born Aug. 2, 1912 in
bnid, OK, to Outer O. Gain and
Mary Donaldson.
He was a retired band
director, beginning his teaching
career in 1930 and lie retired in
1972.
lie was married to Mary Lois
Alston who preceded him in
death April 20, 1990.
There were no immediate
surv ivors.
funeral services were friday,
at noon in Harrell Memorial
Chapel with burial in Live Oak
Cemetery.
SAWYER
Ervin Ural Sawyer, 88, of
Red Oak, died Friday, April 9,
2004.
He was bom Feb. 27, 1916 in
Hamburg, Ark. to Jessie
Leonard Sawyer and Johnnie
Lee Perdue.
He was married to Joyce
Earline Rippetoe Nov. 27, 1946.
He was a World War II Army
veteran, a member of Temple
Baptist in Dallas and retired
from ford Motor Co. Dallas
assembly plant.
Survivors include his wife;
two daughters, Rhonda House
of Dublin and Cheryl Hamill of
Red Oak; one brother, Alvin
Sawyer and a sister. Lee Tucker,
both of Mabank and by four
grandchildren.

Edward Charles (Bird
Houseman) Stratton, 86, of
Dublin, died in Harris Methodist
Hospital in Stephenville
Wednesday, April 7, 2004.
He was bom Sept. 7, 1917 to
Charlie Ross Stratton and
Beulah Selby in Little River in
Bell County, TX.
A member of Community
Baptist Church, Stratton was a
bottler for Dr Pepper Bottling
Co. for 38 years.
His hobby for which he
received his nickname, was
building log house birdhouses.
He was married to Ruby
Agnes Anderson who preceded
him in death in 1946 and then to
Velma Calder. He was also
preceded in death by one
granddaughter and live brothers
and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife;
three sons, Edward Charles
Stratton Jr. of Harper and
Ronald Linn Stratton, of Dublin,
Melvin Burl Stratton of Cabot,
AK; one daughter, Beulah Holt
PRISK
Mollie Marie Prisk, 91, of
Dublin, died at her home
Monday, April 12,2004.
She was born Dec. 5, 1912
in Grandview to James
Samuel Wilson and Mary
Lou Bound. She was married
to James Ira Prisk on July 31,
1932. He preceded her in
death March 31, 1987.
She was a Baptist and a
homemaker.
There were no immediate
family survivors.
Graveside services were
Tuesday at Old Dublin
Cemetery under direction of
Harrell Funeral Home.

Moms in Touch to hold meeting
Moms in Touch, a group of
mothers who meet for one hour
each week to pray for their
children and the schools they
attend, will be holding an
organizational meeting Tuesday,
April 20, 7 p.m. in the activity
room of the Three Oaks Living
Center.
Moms in Touch International
is a non-denominational group
whose vision is that every
school in the world be cover
with prayer. MITI was founded
by Fern Nichols in 1984 and has
spread to include other countries
including El Salvador,
Germany, Switzerland, Korea
and New Zealand.

Cisco College to present concert
The Cisco Junior College
Bands and Belles will present a
concert called "Spring
Celebration" Thursday and
Friday evenings on April 15th
and 16th. The program will be at
the Hilton Hotel, beginning at
7:00 p.m. Coffee, tea and a
strawberry dessert will be
served. The cost is $5.
The music will be light,
ranging from the nostalgic to the
modem, f rom the swing era, the
Jazz Band will perform "It Don't
Mean a Thing If It Ain't Got
That Swing." The Wrangler
Belles will dance to a medley of
Elvis Presley tunes. Many other
enjoyable melodies will also be
on the program.

Genealogy group to have sessions
The Erath County
Genealogical Society will meet
on April 17th at 2 p.nt. in the
Dublin Public Library.
A program will be presented
by Tom Roger. It will include
information on the history of
photographers in the Dublin
area, clues for dating
photographs and demonstrations
of dating photographs.
Attendees are requested to
bring photographs for the
demonstrations.
Earlier in the day, The
Stephenville Public Library will
have a Genealogical workshop
on April 17th by Gwinda Jones,
Erath County Clerk on using
public records at the Court
House and conduct a tour of the
Court House records room.
The workshop will run from
10am to 12am. Contact the
Stephenville Public Library to
register.
STAR Council to host training
The STAR Council on
Substance Abuse will be hosting
Mobilizing Community Assets,
a nationally recognized
curriculum provided by the
Community Anti-Drug
Coalitions of America
(CADCA), to help local
agencies, schools, government
officials and citizens share in
planning for a Drug-Free
Community.
The free training will take
place on Wednesday, April 21st
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the
STAR Council office in
Stephenville. To request more

D.A.R.E. graduation scheduled for May
The local D.A.R.E. Program 10:30 a.m. at the Dublin
will be celebrating the Auditorium on the Jr. High
graduation of its students on Campus, 420 N. Camden,
friday. May 14th, 2004, at

The Stephenville Christian
School has begun early
enrollment for the 2004-2005
School year. The school carries
grades PK3, PK4. Kindergarten
through 6th. If enrolling by
June 15th the enrollment is only
$50.00.

Mesquite, Clarence Clark was
arrested for family violence.
Burglary of a motor vehicle
was reported on April 9 at Dollar
General. It is not known what was
taken.
Also on April 9, Samantha
Lowe reported a disturbing the
peace at 813 Courtney.
On April 9, criminal mischief
was reported at 572 N. Camden.
A Class C theft, driving off
without paying for gas, was
reported at Chigger Ranch on
April 10.
Also on April 10, Pablo Ojeda
Jr., 26, was arrested for warrants.
On April II, Hazel Williams,
305 Hawk reported a theft over
$50, less than $500.

Christy Dawn Towers, 18, was
arrested on April 12 for felony
sexual assault involving a minor
and two local warrants. The
sexual assault occurred in January
involving a 15-year-old female.
On April 13, a criminal
trespass was reported and
Brandon Reeves was arrested for
receiving stolen goods and
possession of marijuana under
two ounces at 202 S. Patrick.
MS Trail Ride
set for May 1
The National Multiple
Sclerosis Society will be
sponsoring the Cowboy Capital
MS Trail Ride on Saturday, May 1
at 8 a.m. to benefit the education,
advocacy research and local
programs that enhance the quality
of life for people with MS and
their families.

Coggins test on their horses, raise
