Masons honor Arms, McKinnon with awards
^Cuk/Sc^&fCul^Ultk/
Jack Leon Turk and Maureen Marjorie "Gail" Koeppe were united in
marriage on April I, 1949 in Oakland, Calif. Tlii'oughout sixty years of
love for better/and for worse, richer and poorer, in sickness and in health
they have successfully reared four children in six states and welcomed
eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
This week, family and friends are sending congratulations and best
wishes in cards and letters celebrating their lifetime of commitment to one
another.
Two leva) citizens were honored
by Dublin’s Masonic Ifodge
Saturday with an awards ceremony
and diniter hosted by the lodge.
Mac MeKinnon, publisher of the
Dublin Citizen, was awarded the
Mason's Community Builder
Award for contributions to the
community.
Mason Harold Arms was
awarded the Mason's highest honor,
the Golden Trowel Award, for “a
lifelong commitment to helping the
Masonry in Dublin mid Texas also,"
said Duty Qetcher.
Amis has been Master of the
Dublin lodge twice, and has served
as the lodge’s secretary. I le has
taught over 50 masons during his 31
years in Masonry, and continues to
support the lodge in every Way.
Arms is a member of the York Ri te,
the Scottish Rite, and is a Shriner.
“His contributions to Masonry,”
said Lodge Master Ken Dtozeski,
“are exceeded only by his desire to
remain anonymous. Just by listening
to him talk, you can [earn a whole
lot from this man. He lias really
contributed financially and
emotionally. We are fortunate to
have him as part of this lodge”
The Golden Trowel Aw ard was
only the second (or third award)
ever given by the Dublin Masonic
Lqdge.
“'Hie award is given for
selflessness- tilings done without
any gain,” said Mason Gary
Whitfield. “It's something you don't
attempt to get, but is presented to
you for selflessness."
“You've left me speechless. I’ve
held passions in my life,” said Anns
upon receiving the award. I’m
passionate about the police
department. I’m passionate about
my fish farm, and I was honored
when the President of the United
States asked me to take care of his
fish. And now I’m honored in my
Harold Arms
other passion in my life. I’m the
most honored person in the world."
“You all will never know how
proud 1 am of this," said Arms.
McKinnon was equally honored
by his award,
“Everything 1 do,” said
McKinnon, “I do because I love my
hometown. A lot of people deserve
this more than 1 do "
McKinnon said that he felt
dwarfed by the accomplishments of
past recipients of the aw'ard.
“1 feel like Mac is the voice of
Dublin,” said Pat Leatlierwood, a
past award recipient. “Mac is there
to express it in a good way.”

Dear Editor:
My wife and I were in Dublin last week for Spring Break. Of course
we went to the Dr. Pepper Plant to see some history and drink an awesome
soft drink. While we were waiting for the plant tour we stepped across the
street to L.J.J. Antiques and Collectibiles. The store was filled with all kinds
of things from the past. The one tiling that caught my wife's eye was this
beautiful rhinestone broach. She loved it and I was indifferent. She did not
buy it and then proceeded to talk about it all the way home.
1 wanted to buy it for her but I didn't remember the name of her
business. I called the Dr. Pepper Plant mid asked the person who answered
to please look across the street and tell the the name of that little antique
shop. He told me the name and said it belongs to Ms. Jones. I called her
and described the broach. She remembered baause when I had returned
later to buy something else she asked if I wanted the broach for my wife
mid 1 said no! So I apologized for not listening to her and proceeded to give
her my debit card number.
She informed me she does not take the cards but she would mail it to
me and 1 could send her a cheek.
I was surprised at her idea and I very much appreciated!
Two days later the broach shows up in the mail. I got the wife to open
it and she was flabbergasted!
Ms. Jones made two people very happy that day! To be so trusting aid
to actually do what you say has somehow sadly been becoming rare these
days. Thanks so much for giving me a little hope that important values are
still lurking amongst strangers. Thank you and god bless you Ms. Jones!
Past recipient Mary Yantis.

her alley” while Karen Wright

Dublin Intermediate School.”

city really appreciates it."
