Early voting is under way
The city of Ennis will hold early vot-
ing for the May 12 election from April
30-May 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City
Hall, located at 115 W. Brown St. in
Ennis.
On May 1 and May 8, voting hours
will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The election is for city voters in
Ward 1, Ward 3 and Ward 5.
Early voting for the EISD school
board election will take place from 8
a.m. to 4 p.m. April 30-May 8 (excluding
Saturday and Sunday) at the EISD Ad-
ministration Building, 303 W. Knox.
Cub Scout garage sale
fundraiser at FllMC
Cub Scout Pack 1096 will hold a
garage sale at First United Methodist
Church from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday,
May 5.
The sale will raise funds to help the
troop’s scouts attend camp.
Baptisms to be hosted
by Damascus Road
Fellowship Church
Damascus Road Fellowship Church
of Ennis will host baptisms at the cor-
ner of Ennis Avenue and Dallas Street
on Sunday, May 6, following praise and
worship music and a message from
Pastor Glenn Hejny. Services begin at
10:15 a.m. at 116 W Ennis Ave.
At 4:30 p.m., the church will have fel-
lowship at the home of Scotty and Rosa
Vyers at 4925 FM 1181, including hot
dogs, hamburgers and all the trim-
mings. Guests are asked to bring chips,
dips, desserts and lawn chairs.
Drinks will be provided.
There will be games and a bounce
house on hand.
Ennis Pirates car wash
fundraiser
The Ennis Pirates 14U Pirates base-
ball team will host a car wash
fundraiser from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday,
May 6 at Chicken Express in Ennis.
Cemetery association
will meet May 6
The Crisp Cemetery Association will
hold its annual meeting at 2 p.m., May
6, weather permitting. Bring lawn
chairs.
A donation of $25, which goes to-
ward cemetery upkeep, is requested.

access to the cemetery.
Friends of EPL will host
meeting May 6
The Friends of the Ennis Public Li-
brary will host their monthly meeting
at noon Tuesday, May 8 at the library.
All members are encouraged to attend.
NARFE to hold monthly
meeting May 8
The National Association of Retired
Federal Employees Chapter 1191 will
hold its regular monthly meeting at
11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the Sirloin
Stockade Buffet. Program speaker will
be Larry Turner, who will present a
history of the oil industry in the area
in conjunction with Navarro College. A
report on the District 3 Convention is
also on the agenda. For more informa-

MAAG to close out year
The MAAG will close their 2011-2012
year with their upcoming meeting at 11
a.m. Wednesday, May 9 at Bardwell
United Methodist Church. Lunch will
be ready and fun, laughter and fellow-
ship are on the agenda.
Reading is fun event set
The fourth annual Reading is Fun 4
Adults 2 event will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 10 at the Ennis Public
Library Learning Center. Come
dressed as a favorite author or charac-
ter or just come to talk about books. Re-
freshments will be served. The event is
the kickoff to Summer Read and is
sponsored by the Friends of the Ennis
Public Library a United Way agency.
Unity in the Community
to host candidate forum
Unity in the Community will host a
candidate forum for those seeking of-
fice in the May 2012 primary elections
at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 11. Those inter-

“The grade (the student) makes on this
year’s EOC doesn’t determine whether he
graduates or not,” she said. “It counts,
but he has three years to get remedy the
damage done.”
Qualls is unsure when the district will
start counting the EOC exams toward
