GRANT
“It doesn't happen in
a vacuum,” Vidrine
said. “Everybody had to
get together and do it to-
gether.”
Averett said he plans
to use the money to un-
derwrite the “Shattered
Dreams” program, a
drunk-driving aware-
ness program held
shortly before prom.
“We thought (Cele-
brate My Drive) would
be a good way to dovetail
with that initiative,”
Averett said. “We want
our kids to be safe on the
road, we want them to
graduate high school
and lead long, prosper-
ous lives.”
cont. from page 1
Vidrine said Averett
was instrumental in
drumming up support
for the vote campaign.
“This would not have
happened if David
Averett had not stood up
and said ‘let's do it,'” she
said.
Averett said the result
shows what the commu-
nity and school can ac-
complish when brought
together.
“I think that shows a
lot of about what it's like
to live in Ennis, to be an
Ennis Lion,” he said.
“When we have some-
thing we can all get be-
hind, we can rise to the
top.”
