lephants win TWC election poll
Grover whips Briscoe by narrow margin
If Texas Wesleyan College is any kind of
indicator, 1972 will be the Year of the Ele-
phant in the State and National elections.
In a two-day poll, conducted by the Ram-
bler in the SUB last week, 204 students gave
resounding approval to President Richard

Ni*onja»cr Senator John Tower.

Repubican State Senator Hank Grover also
won a close race with Dolph Briscoe, his Dem-
ocratic opponent. La Raza Unida, gubernator-
ial candidate Ramsey Muniz gathered the most
votes of the minority parties listed on the bal-
lot.
In the Presidential race, Nixon outran South
Dakota Senator George McGovem by a bett^»
than 3 to 1 margin. McGovem polled 45 votes
to Nixon's 155. American Party candidate John
Schimtz tallied one.
Ted Kennedy, Senator from Mass., received
one write-in vote and two undecided votes
were recorded.
Democratic senatorial challenger Barefoot
Sanders was defeated by the incumbent Tow-
ner, 133 to 58, a 2 to 1 margin. Flores Amaya,
La Raza Unida senatorial candidate, garnered
eight votes and five voters' were undecided.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Grover
collected 101 votes for a narrow victory over
Democrat Briscoe, with 8. La Raza Unida
candidate Muniz got 14 votes and six unde-
cided ballots were cast.

In counting the ballots, any race in which
no candidate was marked was counted as un-
decided.

IN THEIR FIRST scrimmage of the Mason, the
Ram basketball team decked Weatherford Jun-
ior College by eight points in a thre»-half con-
test. Here 4-7 sophomore center Alvin Scott
goes high in the air to thwart a scoring attempt.

the team'* prospects for the coming season. The
first scheduled game is Nov. 21 at Abilene
