Dr. Moore stresses that the
safety of the students and staff
is the highest priority and he
wants to ensure that everyone in-
volved will know what to do in
case of a real emergency.
“The best way to be prepared
is to be practiced,” stated Dr.
Moore.
Staff and students know that
the evacuation plan on Thursday
is a practice drill, but it will be
conducted just like a real emer-
gency evacuation. Principals will
announce the evacuation. Teach-
ers will lead students in an or-
derly fashion to the practice field.
Assigned bus drivers on staff
will drive buses to the double
gates where students will be
loaded onto the buses. Teachers
will bring class rolls and check
roll at practice field and after stu-
dents are loaded on the buses to

for.
In a real evacuation, students
would be bussed to the First
United Methodist Church at 211
Porter Street. During Thursday,
24th’s practice evacuation, the
buses will drive around the block
and return to school.
In a real emergency, Dr. Moore
will make the decision to evacu-
ate or remain at school. Teachers
have been trained in crisis man-
agement procedures and are
aware of what steps to take
in any emergency situation.
Dr. Moore stresses that the
safety and protection of students
is his highest priority and he will
go any lengths to ensure student
safety and security.

tions that students can rotate
through and explore through in-
quiry and interaction. The job/
career representatives who are
anticipated to participate include
the following work categories:
business, public services, law
enforcement, government, agri-
culture, vocational/professional,
technology, military, and commu-
nications. As a result of the stu-
dents’ participation in the Job/
Career Awareness Day, students
are anticipated to become more
knowledgeable about their own
skills and interests and more in-
formed about different job/career
options. This activity also gives
an opportunity for the commu-
nity to participate in students’
educational process while pre-
senting a realistic example of the
world of work.
The Middle School Staff is
appreciative of the effort which
the community extends to make
this activity possible.

Tenaha last year. He received 10
cents per bale for the first cut-
ting and can expect up to 25 cents
from subsequent cuttings. That
will net him up to $20 to $25 per
acre, which will more than pay the
annual property taxes. So, income
generated while the timber grows
comes in handy, he says.

Landowners to bale and market
their pine straw to nurseries and
landscaping companies. This ar-
rangement is becoming comm on -
place in the South wherever pine
is grown.
Other valuable harvesting
pluses for the timber growers is
that the process removes sticks
and limbs making the timberland
more efficient. Bird Forestry ap-
plies herbicide to control weeds
and adds fertilizer which pro-
motes tree growth. This is just
another way to add to the income
of East Texans in the future and
to keep our pristine forests green
and growing.

cation for a grass truck. Mr.
Hailey advised that the Forest
Service’s priority is on grass

nance one, the Council voted to
reapply to the Forest Service for
a grass truck. Fire Chief Hailey
advised that he would have a
demo pumper truck available at
the next Council Meeting for the
Council to look at and would
check into a lease-purchase
agreement for the truck.
In other business, the Police
Department reported they pro-
cessed 48 traffic tickets in the
month of September, the Munici-
pal Court collected $7,563.34 in

repairs and a utility policy.
The City Secretary presented
