OFFICE...Ms. Chief
Cook & Bottlewasher
dropped a line on the writeup
for Roy and Maxine Dent
of G ary and so had to do a bit
of groveling. (Left out a son’s
name). Note the correction
under the photo at right. Roy
said he delivered papers when
he was just a kid (Houston
Chronicle, Post and Shreve-
port Times). He would meet
the 4 a.m. train and the 4:30
a.m. train each morning from
both directions. Then, he’d
deliver the papers, go home,
milk the cows, eat breakfast,
deliver milk and butter to
Mrs. Stanley and Mrs.
Whiteside, then jog to school
about a mile or so. Wow! He
and his brother would leave
home with their shoes on and
hide them under a bush and
go on to school barefoot. They
would re-shoe themselves on
the way home. Young’uns!
KILGORE...Wanda
Conway sent a note thanking
us continuing her paper al-
though she was late in renew-
ing. She says she has read the
News so long even if I don’t
know many of the people, they
seem like old friends. She en-
closed her renewal check and
said “thanks and God Bless.
You, too, my friend. Keep in
touch so we can keep up with
you. Keep reading...you’ll find
HERE THEY ARE— Roy and Maxine Dent of Gary were
honored recently with the presence their five children
to celebrate 52 years of marriage. On Jan. 29,1950, Roy,
of Timpson and Maxine Hassell of Henderson were mar-
ried by Roy’s Methodist preacher in her Baptist Church
(Crim’s Chapel). Present to celebrate were son, Roy
Mack and wife, Hazlina, from Los Angeles,CA; daugh-
ter, DeAnn Clark from Lexington, KY; son, Tom from
Wichita, KS; son, Joe from Carthage and son Kenny and
friend, Teresa from Wichita, KS. Also, Aunt Grace Childs
of Joaquin, and Roy’s brother, Ted, from Nacogdoches.
Had a great time! (This is a correction from last week).

TENAHA...the 116th
birthday party was a good one,
folks tell me. Doug & I
missed it this year. Nancy was
there. Said the fellowship hall
at FUMC was full of good
folks. Sorry I missed seeing
friends and neighbors. Doug
will soon be feeling better, I
hope. Then we can get around
again. We will be re-schedule

if the Lord is willing and the
creek don’t rise).

A look back - a decade ago.
Tenaha’s 106th birthday.
Guest speaker, Inez Pool, told of the days spent in the
cotton fields, Saturday trips to town, a cold school room af-
ter a wet walk to school, election night when everyone would
come to town to watch the election count be posted at the
drug store.
"There was not a parking place on the square," she said.
She told how special Tenaha memories were to her.
Everyone enjoyed Mrs. Pool's memories and the fellow-
ship, with refreshments being served at First United Meth-
odist Church. The Tenaha Quartet consisting of Frank
Kilpatrick, Calvin Christian, Chip Roberson, and Bob Burns
and Don Fallin at the piano were very entertaining.
A special thank you to First United Methodist, Marie
Harrison for decorations and refreshments, to the fine ladies
who always respond when called on, and to all Tenahaians
