TIMPSON...Belated
Happy Birthday wishes, Billy
Hailey! Big BH enjoyed a
birthday last week, which one
we don’t rightly know, so you
guess.
OFFICE...our hearts
were saddend again. Gail
Hairgrove, our wonderful
neighbor on the corner at
RSVP where she was a di-
rector of DETCOG in the
area. We had seen her most
every day for the past dozen
or so years. One day she
passed our door on her way
to the bank, smiling and pert
and healthy and the next, she
was fighting a fatal disease.
She was loved and knew it.
She will be missed by all of
us. Our deepest sympathy to
her family...and all her many
friends.
BOBO...If you are driving
through Bobo, take a look at
Billie Green’s handiwork in
her yard. She has trimmed,
cut, hoed and raked and made
it look like a park. Sure is
pretty. Mmmm! Wonder
where the mayor was all this
time?
TIMPSON. .Someone
sent this to Gene Bogue: It
said, “Happy Birthday, Gene
Bogue! Drop it down in low
gear & “You go, Baby!”
TENAHA...Belated happy
birthday & 30th Wedding
Aniversary to Ginger at
Medico North. Her daughter
and son-in-law treated her to
a ride in a big white limo. She
had never ridden in one and
always wanted to, so they had
one come by and pick her up,
take her home so she could get
dressed and then, on to Na-
cogdoches for a mother-
daughter portrait, and on to the
Jalapeno Tree for a dinner.
Wow! Now she can’t say she
had never had a limo ride.
Congratulations, Ginger!

City Marshal Fred Walker
continues to get unusual calls
for assistance. This week, an
elderly lady called upon him
with a very odd request. She
asked that he come to her resi-
dence and remove a pair of
handcuffs on her bed. It
seems that she had bought a
used bed with handcuffs at-
tached to the headboard. Mar-
shal Walker was able to re-
move the handcuffs and the
relieved citizen was able to
sleep in her bed without the
unusual hardware accessory.
Mercy!
TENAHA... City worker
John Cook injured himself
Friday. He stepped in a hole
and it felt like something was
broken, so he was taken to the
hospital in Nacogdoches. Af-
ter x-rays and other checks,
he is at home and feeling
okay. Sorry about that, John.
Feel better soon.
IRVING...Virginia
Hughes says she looks for-
ward to the paper each week.
“Keep up the good work.
Thanks for working so
hard.’’Thank you, Virginia for
that pat on the back. Makes
us feel like somebody loves
us!
COLFAX, LA....heard
from Micah Walker. He is
fine and just likes to keep in
touch. His paper was late.
Not to worry, Micah, we got
it out late due to a day off.
Nancy Bob and Florence
Jean and Doug (his names
for us) actually all three were
off at the same time!
OFFICE...Who are these
people? Someone thinks the
picture in last week’s issue
was of Harry Perry. Is that
correct?
TENAHA...hope every-
one enjoyed the feature by
Tom Reader entitiled “The
End.” It was a true and scary
description of death row and
execution in a prison. Let him
know.

a ‘41 graduate of THS where
he excelled in all sports and
academically. Like most young
men of that era, a veteran of
WW II, serving his country
honorably in the European the-
ater. On his return home in
July, 1945, he married his high
school sweetheart, Aillene
Samford and built a home
here. He soon enrolled in
Panola College, a member of
its first graduating class, then
a degree and Masters degree
from SFA University, return-
ing to his beloved hometown
in 1950 to teach and coach
football and every thing else
that was required of a faculty
member in those years. His
1951 Tigers defeated the Cen-
ter Roughriders 7-8, giving
Tenaha its only victory over
our neighbors. He moved to
Carthage and became a mem-
ber of the faculty and coach-
ing staff there for the next 30
years before retirement sev-
eral years ago. Most of all Jack
was a Christian gentleman and
was respected by all who
knew him, serving his church,
Central Baptist, for over 50
years as a Deacon, Sunday
School Superintendent and
many other offices. He is
fondly remembered by his
former students for his dedi-
cation to each one as he helped
them move out into the world
to persue and obtain leader-
ship positions all across our
nation. Jack, a teammate, a
neighbor and most of all a de-
voted friend, is survived by his
wife of 57 years, Aillene; four
sons and families, Steve &
Jerrilyne, Carthage; Ric &
Sue Ann of Copell; Ken &
Pattie of Stamford; Ron &
Susie of Cypress; two broth-
ers, Chuck of Tenaha and
Charles of Houston; many
grandchildren, great grands,
other relatives and large num-
ber of friends from our area.
A man of quality and charac-
ter that will be greatly missed,
especially by this
writer. (A IIB)
TIMPSON.. .Happy Birth-
day, Hilda Pena! (Gotcha!)

Testing of suspected West Nile birds
The Texas Department of
Health prefers Monday, Tuesday
or Wednesday collections. Birds
must be fresh-dead - best if one
sees them die and fall from tree,
etc. No ants on them. No animals
having played with them. Not run
over by a vehicle. Not touched
by human hands.
Use gloves to pick up bird...do
not touch with bare hands.
Double bag in zip lock bags and
place on ice. Call 903-533-5212
and let TX Dept, of Health know
that you have a dead bird. Take
bird to Shelby Veterinarian or
other vet instructed by TX Dept,
of Health. Give vet your name,
address and phone number. Vet
will mail to Austin.
No charge for shipping or
testing...one (l)bird per house-
hold per week and four (4) total
from City.
FELLOWSHIP MEAL—over 120 folks attended the “after services” fellowship at the West Panola Church of
Christ in Carthage Sunday. Food was plentiful and delicious. Spirituality is still strong in the USA despite the
terrorism. This was the first day of a 3-day revival meeting with Bro. Steven Wiggins. Photo by Doug Reeh
