TENAHA...Jodi and Jonie
Pollard, daughters of Johnny &
Marilyn Pollard of Katy, Texas,
graduated cum laude May 5,2001,
from Lon Morris College in Jack-
sonville. Jonie was the highest
ranking graduate and Jodi was not
far behind. They are undecided
as to where they will be starting
in the fall. Attending the gradua-
tion were proud grandmother
Helen Pollard of the Tennessee
Community and aunt and uncle
Sharon and Charles Pollard of
San Augustine. (DB City Hall)
T & T...well, the election is
over and all is said and done. Hope
everyone is happy about the out-
come. Let’s get behind our trust-
ees and support them. It is a huge
job and the pay is minimal.
OFFICE...Doug had a doctor
visit. Saw some old friends. We’ve
been going to the same place for
so long until the folks there are a
part of our lives. No word yet.
Another visit to be scheduled.

Just Cutrious ? By Florence Reeh
Things you can live without knowledge of\ if you have to:
Who was the first person to
say, “If the shoe fits, wear it?” If
you don’t like the shoe? Tough!
If Father Time and Mother
Nature got together, what would
you call their offspring?
Does the line you sign on have
to be dotted? Why?
How fast exactly is “break-
neck speed?” Seventy miles per
hour?
Who invented the “one size fits
all” craze?” Must have been fall-
ing down drunk. Some of the socks
that say “One size fits all” must
have been modeled by Goliath.
Who originated the saying,
“Foot loose and fancy free?”
What ever does it all mean?
Ever hear anyone say, “I don’t
give a “hoot and a holler” for all
that?” Does it mean its worthless?
When was the term,
“squatter’s rights” first used?
Who were the first “squatters?”
Picture that.
Who was the very first person
who was known as being “slap
happy?” Wonder what caused it.
Do we “slow up’
down?” Which is it?

Timpson Times was started in
1885, the town’s first year by G.S.
Espy, as a weekly. It changed
hands may times, but in 1911,
Silvanus Winfrey and Tom
Molloy purchased the paper to-
gether and published it in partner-
ship until December, 1962. In
1909, the Timpson Soda and Min-
eral Water Company was one of
the largest concerns for making
carbonated water. J.B. Bussey
and Mr. Fory established the first
telephone exchange with 250 lo-
cal phones and 400 miles of toll
lines belonging to the system, and
long distance connection with all
points. John Bussey sold the sys-
tem to Bell Telephone Company
in 1912. There was an Ice Fac-
tory owned and operated by W.D.
Wade that had a capacity of ten
tons a day and was in constant
use during the “ice months.” Ice
was delivered anywhere in the city
for 40 cents a hundred pounds. In
1900, H.R. Fory and A.D. Johns
built the first light plant and
brought electricity to Timpson.
Owned and operated by E.W.
Victory in 1909, it was said to be
second to none for the size of the
town.
GARY...Nancy took pictures
of the Loblolly reception the other
day. The 61st edition of this book
is a good one dedicated to our sol-
diers who were in WWII. It’s very
interesting._

be going to Florida for their senior
trip. They have worked very hard
to get money together and we all
wish them a great time and a safe
trip both ways.

all the seniors here and think they

He is a comedian at times and we
have a good time.
MOTHERS...we salute all
mothers in the area. Some are not
with us anymore and we miss
them. I miss my mom. She has
been gone since Mother’s Day,
1972, so this date every year
chokes me up. She was special
