PAGE 4, TIMPSON & TENAHA NEWS, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15,2001
To all of you who are reading this
article: I need you to repeat after me,
the writer. I have a race to run and I
must get to the finish line. I need you
to understand what you are saying
here! I, Me, Myself, have a race to
run. I, Me, Myself must get to the
finish line, whatever your name may
be.
The Holy Bible tells us in the book
of Wisdom, “As Solomon spoke by
saying, For as he thinketh in his heart,
so is he...at this time, God gave
Solomon the wisdom to speak unto
the man and the woman. But remem-
ber, I have a race to run, and I must
get to the finish line. The Scriptures
do not he. They tell us that if we think
or thinketh in our heart that someone
is a murderer, thief, reckless and a liar,
you are that so the Bible says. You
don’t become that, you are that. I
have a race to run and I must get to
the finish line.
Solomon goes on to tell us in the
book of wisdom: Everyone that is
proud in heart is an abomination to
the Lord, though hand join hand, he
A mik In The Light
shall not go unpunished. I have done
some things in my life that I must pay
for in this life. Solomon goes on to
tell us that deceit is in the heart of
them that imagine evil, but to the
counsellors of peace is joy. I have a
race to run and I must finish the race
that God has set before me.
In the book of Wisdom, Solomon
tells us to keep your heart with all
diligence, for out of it are the issues
of life. I have a race to run and I must
get to the finish line. In this race, I
must have some caring in my heart.
Love, joy and peace. To finish the
race, Ezekiel tells us, As a shepherd
seeketh out his flock in the day that
he is among his sheep that are scat-
tered so will I seek out my sheep and
will deliver them out of all places
where they have been scattered in
the cloudy and dark day. Because I
care and I have a race to run. And I
must finish the race that the Lord has
set before me.
In this race at the starting line,
there is a man. And at the finishing
line that same man is right there. This

“She is Woman” in every sense
of the word because she presents
herself as an adult. She assumes her
responsibilities at the Annunciation,
the event that will forever shape her
destiny. She does not boast of her
privilege and she does not lavish ex-
clusive love on her Son that would
tend to be selfish of her. On the con-
trary, mindful of Jesus’ mission, she
wants him to proceed: “They have
no more wine.” John 2: 3.
During Jesus’ public life, she re-
mains in the background but she is
present at the Hour of the Cross. She
is not offended when reminded of the
adjustments mothers must make as
her child grows and matures. In her
case, she must assume exceptional
adjustments because of the person
of her Son. To the natural dimensions
of a mother-son relation are added
those of faith, over and above the
bond of the flesh. Her “disposition”
even extends to accepting the death
of her Son on the cross for the salva-
tion of the world. Her name is Mary.
Mary does not jealously guard
her Son. She knows that her Son
does not belong to her, but to all. Her
life is centered not on herself, but on
her S on who gives it all its meaning.
This attitude is the source of a genu-
ine personal life for Mary, but who
with a sense of responsibility and free-
dom that can, when necessary, take
the initiative: read Luke 1:38 and John
2:3.
Pope Paul VI sketched such a
Marian theology in his 1974 Apos-
tolic Exhortation on Devotion to the
Blessed Virgin. Lie set a rule of Mary
and Modem Woman: she is a mirror
of the expectation of the women of
our day. 1) Modem woman is anx-
ious to participate with decision-
making power in the affairs of the
community. She can thus contemplate
with joy. Mary, who in dialogue with
God, gives her consent, not to a so-
lution of a possible problem, but to
that event of world importance, the
Incarnation. 2) The modem woman
lives in a world which extols the value
of marriage, looks down on virginity
as counter productive. But realizing
that God’s plan prepared Maiy for the
mystery of the Incarnation, she can
thus appreciate the Mary’s choice
was not a rejection of the value of
marriage but a courageous choice she
made to totally consecrate herself to
the will of God. 3)Modem woman
lives in a world of self - assurance is
important. She can note that Mary of
Nazareth, while completely devoted
to God, she was far from being a tim-
idly submissive woman, or one
whose piety was repellent to others.
No, she was a woman who does not
hesitate to proclaim that God vindi-
cates the humble and
oppressed...read Luke 1: 51-53, 54.
Modem woman wishes to support
the liberating energies of people and
of society. She can thus recognize in
Mary, who stands among the poor
and humble of the Lord, a woman of
strength, who experiences poverty,
suffering, flight and exile. Matt. 12:
13-23.
In light of all the observations of
Mary, it is possible for modem Chris-
tians to arrive at a better understand-
ing of the Mother of Jesus our Lord.

Tcachings from the Bible
God gave us a definite planned
structure for the family. If it were fol-
lowed, there would be no need for
divorce courts.
Gen. 2:23-24- 'And Adam said,
“This is now bone of my bone and
flesh of my flesh. She shall be called
Woman because she was taken out
of man. Therefore man shall a man
leave his father and his mother and
cleave unto his wife and they shall
be one flesh."
Gen. 3:3-16- 'Unto woman he said,
"I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and
they conception, in sorrow thou shaft
bring forth children and thy desire
shall be to thy husband and he shall
rule over thee."
Esther 1:20-22- "And when the
king's decree which he shall make
shall be published throughout all his
empire,(for it is great), all the wives
shall give to their husbands honor,
both to great and small. And the say-
ing pleased the king and princess and
the king did according to the word of
Memucan. For he sent letters into all
the king's provinces, into every prov-
ince according to the writing thereof
and to every people after their lan-
guage, that every man should bear
rule in his own house and that it
should be published accord to the
language of every people."
1 Cor. 7:3 "Let the husband ren-
der unto the wife due benevolence
and likewise also the wife unto the
husband."
1 Cor. 7:10-11 "And to the married
I command, yet not I, but the Lord,
let not the wife depart from her hus-
band. But and if she depart, let her
remained unmarried, or be reconciled
to her husband and let not the hus-
band put away his wife."
1 Cor. 11:3 "But I would have you
know, that the head of every man and
the head of every woman is the man
and the head of Christ is God."
1 Cor. 11:7-11 "For the man indeed
ought not to cover his head, for as
much as he is the image and glory of
God, but the woman is the glory of
man. For man is not of the woman,
but the woman of man. Neither was
the man created for the woman, but
woman for the man. For this cause
ought the woman to have power on
her head because of the angels. Nev-
ertheless, neither is the man without
the woman, neither is woman with-
out the man, in the Lord."
Eph. 5:22-33 "Wives, submit your-
selves unto your own husbands, as
unto the Lord. For the husband is
head of the WI, even as Christ is the
head of the church and he is the sav-
ior of the body. Therefore as the
church is subject unto Christian so
let the wives be to their husbands in
everything. Husbands, love your
wives, even as Christ also loved the
church and gave himself for it. That
he might sanctify and cleanse it with
the washing of water by the word.
That he might present it to himself a
glorious church, not having spot or
wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it
should be holy and without blemish.
So ought men love to love their wives
as their own bodies. He that loveth
his wife loveth himself. For no man
every yet hated his own flesh, but
nourisheth it, even as the Lord the
church. For we are members of his
body, of his flesh and of his bones.
For this cause shall a man leave his
father and mother and shall be joined
unto his wife and they two shall be
one flesh. This is a great mystery, but
I speak concerning Christ and the
church. Nevertheless, let every one
of you in parti cular so love his wife
even as himself, and the wife see that
she reverence her husband."
Col. 3-18-21 "Wives, submit your-
selves unto your own husbands, as
it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love
your wives, and be not bitter against
them. Children, obey parents in all
things, for this is planned unto the
Lord. Fathers, provoke not to anger,
lest they be discouraged."
