Crank-A-Thon
The Crank-A-Thon at Golden Age
Manor Feb. 15 will have nearly 30
residents participating in making old
fashioned ice cream as they par-
ticipate in a fund raising activity for
the American Heart Association.
The Crank-A-Thon will be held in
the east lobby of the home and will
begin at 2 p.m. Residents will be
assisted by the staff, volunteers and
families as they turn the old fashion-
ed crank ice cream freezer.
“Senior Citizens and Golden Age
Manor will be taking pledges for one
cent a crank with a minimum of a $2
donation and a maximum of a $5
donation,” said Joy Daniels, activity
director. “We’re inviting everyone
who rnakes a pledge to come by and
help us eat the ice cream we’ll be
making,” she added.
All proceeds from the Crank-A-
Thon will be donated to the American
Heart Association.
Residents planning to take part in
the Crank-A-Thon are Barker Jess,
Lillie Bolden, Ruby Craddock,

and Ken Taylor.
“The day of the Crank-A-Thon is
abo our employee’s day,” said Mrs.
Daniels, “which means employees
will have on t-shirts and jeans, mak-
ing it easier to sit on the ice cream
freezers.”
Golden Age Manor is using the
theme of “A Home With A Heart” as
they join thousands of volunteers in
Texas in their efforts to co collect
contributions to support medical
research, education and community
service programs. These American
Heart Association programs are aim-
ed at achieving the goal of preventing
premature death and disability caus-
ed by heart and blood vessel disease.
“We have heart month each year to
benefit the American Heart Associa-
tion during Valentines and to raise
funds for research of heart disease,”
said Mrs. Daniels.
“Come by and make your pledge
before or during the Crank-A-Thon,”
said Mrs. Daniels, “and if you’ve

Rock-A-Thon
About 20 residents of Dublin Nurs-
ing Center, as well as several
volunteers, are planning to take part
in the Rock-A-Thon from 2-4 p.m.
Feb. 15 at the lobby of the nursing
home.
Refreshments will be served and
throughout the afternoon the Lone
Star Eagle Band will provide enter-
tainment for participants and those
on hand to watch the proceedings.
i
“We need pledges and donations,”
said Rita Spraggins, activity director
of the home. “All the money we raise
will be donated to the American
Heart Association for their use in
heart and blood vessel disease-the
nation's number one killer,” she said.
“We also need some more rocking
chairs,” said Mrs. Spraggins,
“because right now we have more
rockers than we have rocking
chairs."
The Rock-A-Thon will take place on
the last day of a week of fund raising
events planned to benefit the
American Heart Association.
“Home With A Heart” is the theme
Dublin Nursing Center is using dur-
ing the events as they join the
American Heart Association in “a
fight for your life.”
According to a proclamation signed
recently by Gov. Mark White, heart
and blood vessel disease will claim
over 325,000 lives and is expected to
cost the economy $72.1 billion in 1985.
“Rocking is good for the cardio-
vascular system and the funds we
raise will help the American Heart
Association in their research pro-
grams, and their community service
and public education programs.”
said Mrs. Spraggins.
“We invite everyone to come by,
have refreshments with us, listen to
the band and cheer the residents dur-
ing our Rock-A-Thon," Mrs. Sprag-
gins said.
