Pinkie Funderburk
Funeral services for Pinkie Funder-
burk, 88, formerly of the Union
Community of Hopkins County, were
conducted Thursday, June 24, in Lau-
reland in Dallas.
Pallbearers were Joe Springer,
Dave Funderburk, Lenwood Fox and
Mark, David and Steve Jones.
Mrs. Funderburk died Tuesday in a
Dallas nursing home.
Survivors include two sons, Harold
of Dallas and Paul Jones of Phoenix,
Ariz.; one sister, Irby Harrington of
Sulphur Springs; and several grand-
children.
Her husband, J. Lawrence, preced-
ed her in death.
Charlie Howard
Funeral services for Charlie Byro
(Sam) Howard, 64, were conducted
Friday, June 25, at Morning Chapel
Baptist Church with the Revs. H.B.
Montgomery, Charles Hawkins and
Perry Hawkins officiating.
Burial was in East Caney Ceme-
tery with James Sims, Bill Sims,
Sammie Taylor, Frankie Hawkins,
Carter Sims, James Hall, Bobby Sims
and James Moore serving as pallbear-
ers.
Mr. Howard died Monday at Hop-
kins County Memorial Hospital.
He was bom March 28, 1929 in
Hopkins County to Avery Howard
and Beulah Miller Howard. He was
married to Ann Hawkins in
Greenville in 1977. She survives.
Mr.Howard was a retired machinist
and a member of East Caney Baptist
Church. He was a veteran of the
Korean War serving in the Army.
Survivors include one son, Dwayne
Howard of Brooklyn, N.Y., one
daughter, Shirley Pryor of Sulphur
Springs; three brothers, B.D.
Howard, Leroy Howard and Hubert
Howard, all of Dallas; two sisters,
Bertha Dial and Georgia Williams,
both of Sulphur Springs; three grand-
children and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his
parents and one brother.

of arrangements.
Nikki Jones
Funeral services for Nikki Jones,
30, of Emory, were conducted Satur-
day, June 26, in Prairie Grove Baptist
Church with the Rey. Richard Roller-
son serving as pallbearers.
Burial were in Prairie Grove
Cemetery in Emory with Is sac Porter,
Norris Lane, Reginald Randolph,
Perry Thomas, Raymond Robinson
and Hubert Anderson serving as pall-
bearers. Honorary pallbearers will be
Arvay Askew, Ricky Phillips, Edwin
Robinson and Charles R. Smith.
Mr. Jones died Tuesday in Baylor
University Medical Center in Dallas.
He was bom Dec. 30,1962, in Sul-
phur Springs, to Belvis and Rubie Jo
Jackson Jones.
Mr. Jones was a member of Prairie
Grove church. He attended Rains
schools.
Survivors include his mother,
Rubie Jo Wade of Emory; her stepfa-
ther, Henry Wade of Emory; one
brother, Ricky D. Benton of Emory;
two sisters, Vickie Tennyson of
Emory and Beverly Jones of Sulphur
Springs; and her grandmother, Annie
Jackson of Emory.
Floretta Byrd
Funeral services for Floretta
Honaker Byrd of Farmersville, for-
merly of Sulphur Springs, were con-
ducted Thursday, June 24, in First
Methodist Church in Farmersville
with the Rev. Gene Gordon and the
Rev. Vic Casad officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in
Farmersville with Bill Byrd, Steve
Forester, Enos Ashcroft III, Joe
Aston, Mont Hendricks and Tommy
Lovell serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Byrd died June 22 in McKin-
She was bom March 29, 1901, in
Farmersville, to Johnnie B. and Emi-
ly Burnett Honaker. She married Jack
W. Byrd on Nov. 6, 1922, in Farm-
ersville. He preceded her in death in
1970.
Mrs. Byrd was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son. Jack H.
Byrd of Dallas; one granddaughter,
Emily Ann Byrd of Dallas; one
grandson, William Wesley Byrd of
Coppell; one brother, Pat Honaker of
Farmersville; and one great-grandson.

Lyle McKitrick, 2, of the Birthright

GRAYSON
The child died at 3 a.m. Thursday
in Children’s Medical Center in Dal-
las, following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 25, 1990, to
Robert Lyle and Kathy McKitrick.
Survivors include his mother,
Kathy McKitrick of Sulphur Springs;
his fattier, Robert L. McKitrick Sr. of
Fort Worth; two brothers, Robert Lyle
McKitrick Jr. and Nathen Shayne
McKitrick, both of Sulphur Springs;
one sister, Sheena Kay Long of Sul-
phur Springs; and his grandparents,
Bobbie and Doyle Davis of Okla-
homa and Irma and John McKitrick
of Fort Worth.

Homer H. Grayson
Funeral services for Homer H.
Grayson, 81, of Sulphur Springs,
were conducted Saturday, June 26, in
Tapp Funeral Home with the Rev.
Guy Mays officiating.

conducted in Greenview Cemetery
with nephews serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Grayson
died at 10:50 a.m.

He was bom

Grayson. He married Avis Looney.
She preceded him in death in 1980.
He married Pauline Carpenter in
1984 in Sulphur Springs. She sur-
vives.
Mr. Grayson was a retired longtime
employee of United Steel. He was a
member of Emory United Methodist
Church and he attended Sunday
School at Davis Street Baptist
Church. He was a member of Hop-
kins Masonic Lodge 180, AF&AM,
in Cumby.
Survivors include one stepson,
David Carpenter of Sulphur Springs;
two stepdaughters, Katherine Starr of
Tyler and Paula Dangler of Wilming-
ton, N.C.; two brothers, Carl Grayson
of the Bonanza Community and
Euless R. Grayson of the Gafford
Chapel Community; three sisters,
Vera Long of Miller Grove and Ruby
Gene Long and Eula Mae Darrow,
both of the Greenview Community;
six grandchildren; and one great-
grandchild.
He was preceded in death by sever-
al brothers and sisters.
Willie D. Spencer
Funeral services for Willie D.
Spencer, 51, of Sulphur Springs, were
conducted Saturday, June 26, in Mur-
ray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with the
Rev. Kenneth Rhoades and the Rev.
Don Tinsley officiating.
Burial was in Restlawn Memorial
Park with David Winstead, Buddy L.
Winstead, Wesley Clay Winstead,
Elmer Hall, Tommy Hall, Danny
Posey and David Dougan serving as
pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will
be doctors from Medical-Surgical
Clinic.
Mrs. Spencer died at 2:10 p.m.
Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in
Paris.
She was bom Nov. 19, 1941, in
Campbell, to William and Mel D.
Blout Winstead. She married Ken-
neth Ray Spencer on April 20, 1968,
in Hugo, Okla. He survives.
Mrs. Spencer was the dietary
supervisor for Leisure Lodge Nursing
Home. She was a Baptist.
Other survivors include one daugh-
ter Karen Hopper of Sulphur Springs;
one sister, Nell Jean Hall of Com-
merce; three brothers. Buddy Win-
stead and Wesley Winstead, both of
Sulphur Springs, and Tommy Win-
stead of Weaver; her mother of Sul-
3hur Springs; and one granddaughter,
Silita Deonne Hopper.
She was preceded in death by her
father.
Margaret Giddens
Funeral services for Margaret Ruth
jiddens, 89, of Dallas, formerly of
Hopkins County, were conducted Sat-
urday, June 26, in First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Rodger
McDonald and the Rev. Fred Lewis
officiating.
Burial was in City Cemetery with
grandsons and nephew: Marcus
Clifton, Christopher Clifton, Jonathan
Clifton and John Heiman serving as
pallbearers.
Mrs. Giddens died at 3:45 a.m.
Wednesday in Rybum Nursing Home
in Dallas. ,
She was bom May 27, 1904, in the
Greenwood Community, to Van E.
and Nora Ella Thompson Gilbreath.
She married Marion Willis Giddens
on July 18, 1931, in Saltillo. He pre-
ceded her in death in 1954.
Mrs. Giddens taught in schools for
50 years, including Winnsboro High
School and Southwest Baptist Uni-
versity in Bolivar, Mo. She was a
member of First Baptist Church and
Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include one daughter,
Ellamary Clifton of Sachse; and three
grandsons, Marcus Clifton and
Jonathan Clifton, both of Sachse, and
Christopher Clifton of Austin.
She was also preceded in death by
two brothers, James Carlton and
Rufus Clyde Gilbreth; and one sister,
Mary Faye Irby.
Jean Siegrist
Funeral services for Noma Jean
Siegrist, 63, of Canton, were con-
ducted Monday, June 28, in
Northridge Baptist Church in Edge-
wood with the Rev. Bill Lundy offi-
ciating.
Burial was in Conner Cemetery.
Mrs. Siegrist died at 10:10 a.m.
Friday in Cosby Germany Hospital in
Grand Saline.
She was bom Sept. 29, 1929, in
Mahoney, to Joseph and Sarah Beck.
She married Alvin Earl Siegrist on
May 20, 1950, in Lindsey, Calif. He
survives.
Mrs. Siegrist was a homemaker
and a member of Northridge Baptist
Church.
Other survivors include two sons,
Steffen Earl Siegrist and Chris
Siegrist, both of Canton; two daugh-
ters, Sharon Siegrist of Mesquite and
Trisha Siegrist of Garland; three
brothers, Clyde Beck of Dike, Everett
Beck of Antioch, Calif., and Jimmy
Beck of Williams, Ariz.; two sisters,
Fannie Leewright of Sacramento,
Calif., and Jo Dunham of Lexington,
N.C.; and two grandchildren. Lea
Siegrist and Eric Seagrist.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, four brothers and two sisters.

She was born July 12, 1918 in
Hopkins County to Bob Ciciro and
Mattie Cloe Proctor Dannel. She was
married to Geane A. Rodgers on Nov.
17, 1944. He preceded her in death in
1985.
Mrs. Rodgers was a retired school
teacher and a member of the First
Baptist Church. She was also a for-
mer member of the Business and Pro-
fessional Club and a member of the
Texas Association of Hairdressers
and Cosmetologists.
Survivors include one daughter,
Lynn Wilemon, and two grandsons,
James David and Geane Albert Wile-
mon, all of Sulphur Springs.

The infant was born and died Fri-

Bud Moseley
Funeral services for Bud Moseley,
86, of Gatesville, were conducted at
11 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at Pember-
ton Funeral Chapel.
Burial will be in Greenview Ceme-
tery, near Sulphur Springs.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Moseley died Tuesday in
Gatesville.
He was bom June 23,1907, in Sul-
phur Springs, to Henry L. Moseley
and Mattie Farrell. He married Virgie
Cauthron on Aug. 15, 1930, in Sul-
phur Springs. She preceded him in
death April 15,1980.
Mr. Moseley lived in Sulphur
Springs from 1930 until 1945. He
had also been a Commerce resident
and was employed as a painter for
East Texas State University. He was
a Baptist.
Survivors include one daughter,
Mattie Barnes of Gatesville; and two
grandsons, Tracy Stoval and Bill
Barnes, both of Gatesville.
He was also preceded in death by
his parents; one son, Jack Moseley;
and eight brothers and sisters.
Malcolm Strickland

He was born Sept. 5, 1927, in
Cumby, to W.E. Strickland and Lelar
Corine Wilkow.

Mr. McKown died Wednesday in a
Houston hospital, following an
extended illness.
He was bom Dec. 22, 1922, in
Winters, to Sam Liberty and Eliza-
beth Johnson McKown. He married
Evelyn Harris, formerly of Winns-
boro, in 1954. She survives.
Mr. McKown was a former Dallas
Quick Wash Laundry manager. He
was a Navy veteran of World War II
and a member of the Baptist.
Other survivors include one son,
Dan Wheat of Martinez, Calif.; one
daughter, Cheryl Baxley of Houston;
five grandchildren; and one great-
grandchild.

McLeroy, 49, of Winnsboro, were

Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro

Winnsboro, following a sudden ill-
ness.
He was bom March 26, 1944, in
Winnsboro.
Mr. McLeroy was a foreman for
Petty’s Producing Company. He was
a member of First United Methodist
Church and a lifelong resident of
Winnsboro. He was a 1962 graduate
of Winnsboro High School.
Survivors include his wife. Sue
McLeroy of Winnsboro; and two
sons, Doyle McLeroy and Randy

Early morning fire
causes $50,000 damage
From Staff Reports
A fire at a home near Birthright
early this morning caused an estimat-
ed $50,000 damage.
No cause has been determined for
the fire, which consumed a single-sto-
ry, wood-frame home located on FM
Road 71 about 11/2 miles east of
State Highway 19.
The home, owned by Linda Vlit,
was occupied by Vickie Gorton, who
was not injured in the incident.
Firemen from Sulphur Springs
Central Fire Station responded to a
report of a fire in progress about 1:30
a.m. this morning.
About 20 firefighters in seven fire
trucks battled the blaze for almost two
hours.
Firemen from Sulphur Springs,
North Hopkins, Tira, Peerless and
Sulphur Bluff assisted in the call.
