Wiffie Lee (Right) Lawson, 69, x
'in Presbyterian Hospital in
Dallas after a lingering illness.
Surviving are her husband,
Hobby, three sons, Don, W.D.
and Floyd, and two daughters,
Janie Jones and Wynelle Bels.
Final rites were at 2 p.m.
Monday in Tapp Chapel with
burial in North Hopkins
Cemetery.
Mrs. J.C. (Dortheal) Denny
was admitted to Memorial
Hospital Monday for tests and
observation.
Lisa Speed is spending this
week of Easter holidays in
Greenville sitting with her
nieces, Cristy and Misty Speed,
while their mother, Cathie, goes
to beauty school.

Clyde Bassham was admitted
to Mount Vernon hospital
Monday for tests after several
days of not feeling well.
Paul and Valeria Moore of
Mesquite spent the weekend
here at their mobile home. They
hosted the annual Moore and
Blount reunion at noon Sunday.
Forty-two were present. All five
of the Moore sisters and

three Blount sisters and part of
their families were present. An
egg hunt was enjoyed by

Thursday night in Kilgore. He

La. Hershell Smith is a nephew
of the late Leonard (Dad) Smith
and Clarence Smith of Saltillo.

Springs. He came home
Saturday and is doing fine.

The community was sad-
dened by the death of Mrs.
Willie Lee Lawson at
Presbyterian Hospital, where
she has been a patient most of
the time for several months, on
Saturday night. She had many
friends here. Lunch was served
to relatives and friends at Tira
Community Center Monday,
Funeral services were held at
Tapp Funeral Home Monday
afternoon, with burial following
in North Hopkins Cemetery.
There was good attendance at

member of the Sulphur Springs
Police Department, observed
his 23rd birthday anniversary
Thursday and spent part of the
day as a witness in a criminal
case underway in Eighth
District Court. He recalled that
on his 22nd birthday he oc-
cupied a few hours with a
similar call to testify in a
criminal action.
MR. AND Mrs. Danny (Cody)
McCauley announce the birth of
a daughter, Marcy Marie, at
6:51 p.m. Sunday, April 4 at
Hopkins County Memorial
Hospital. She weighed eight
pounds, four ounces. Grand-
parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Vessie McCauley and Mr. and
Mrs. W.B. Hooten of Sulphur
Springs. Mr. and Mrs. J.V.

great-grandparents.
LARRY FERRILL of Sulphur
Springs, who was severely
injured in a diving accident
June 14, 1981, has been a
quadriplegic patient in Swiss
Avenue Hospital since March 8.

contest for girls in nine through
twelfth grades. There will also
be a “Little Miss of Saltillo" for
four- to five-year-olds. The
pageant is scheduled for 7:30

are $1.50 adults and 50 cents for
students and children. There is

Regan Jr. announce the birth of
a son, Charles Henry Regan III,

Hospital. He weighed five

Awards Banquet will be held
May 6 at the Civic Center.
Awards will be presented by the
men’s service clubs of Sulphur
Springs. Proceeds will go
toward a Law Enforcement
Scholarship to be given an-
nually. The first such
scholarship will be awarded at

THE ENFORCEMENT of the
law requiring drivers to show
proof of liabilitry is expected to
be reflected in revenue
collections, local officials
report. Die minimum fine for
failure to show the required
proof is $75 plus $6 for a total of
$81 for the first offense in either
justice of peace or municipal
courts. A second offense carries
a minimum fine of $200 and is a
county court case.

employees were on a special
hunt assignment in downtown
Sulphur Springs Thursday.
They were probing for a gas
leak on the east side of the
square and had a section of area
blocked off. The gas lines are
under the sidewalk.

GOOD FRIDAY was ob-
served as an official holiday by
courthouse employees, but a
trial before a jury continued in
Judge Lanny Ramsay’s Eighth
District Court. Diere were few
spectators attracted to the
court.
MRS. VERNON Castle has
been employed in the office of
Justice of Peace W.H. Bauman
in Sulphur Springs.

Springs soared to $16,285.31 in
March, reflecting a healthy
gain over both January and
February.
Bauman’s Precinct One
covers Sulphur Springs and
adjacent areas.
The justice court accepted 708
misdemeanor traffic and 14 non
traffic misdemeanor cases in
March, along with five small
claims suits and six other civil
suits.
The report, compiled by
Sandra Hathcox, showed that
426 payments of fines in traffic
cases were made before trial,
and 120 were found guilty in
appearances before the judge.
Ten cases were dismissed
prior to trial and nine others
were dismissed after com-
pletion of defensive drivers
course. Eight traffic cases were
appealed to county court.
