Seat belts
credited
LIVINGSTON - Seat belts are
credited with preventing major in-
juries in a two-car collision Friday
morning on U.S. 190 East near the
Indian Reservation, according to
Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Ross
J. Cox Sr.
A 1977 Lincoln driven by Barbara
Israel, 47, of Indian Springs was
ea.stbound and was attempting to
turn left into the Indian Reservation
Community Center, when it was
struck broadside by a 1979 Ford
driven by Marvin S. Jackson Jr., 21,
of Richmond, Tx. Jackson was at-
tempting to pass Israel’s car when
the collision occurred, Cox said. The
impact sent Israel's car into a spin
w hich ended in a south barrow ditch.
There was extensive damage to both
vehicles.
Israel and a child in her car were
both wearing seat belts and were not
seriously injured, he said. A
passenger in Jackson’s car was
taken to the hospital with glass in his
right eye.
Jackson was cited for disregar-
ding a no passing zone and with
failure to maintain financial repon-
sibility. The passenger in Jackson's
vehicle was cited for not wearing a
safety belt Israel was charged with
failure to maintain financial respon-
sibility.
The accident occurred at 8:05 a m.
