Excitement Prevails in
Milwaukee-ftrooklyn
Game on Wed. Night
, i
Milwaukee. June 3 (UP).—There;
was quite a bit of excitement last r
night In Milwaukee before Brooklyn '
finally wound up on top of the Na- J
tional League.
The Dodgers moved past Mil-
waukee by beating the Braves, 7 to
0, in a game called after five
tunings because of rain. But before
that, Umpire Loo Ballanfant had
cleared the Dodger bench, Jackie
Robinson was tossed out of the
game and an usher was hit on the
head when the Dodger outfielder
tossed a bat into the stands.
The trouble started in the fourth
when the Dodgers protested a ball
count on Milwaukee Shortstopj
Johnny Logan. Eddie Mathews fol-
lowed with a grand slam homer. I
The Dodger bench set up a howl
and Ballanfant chased the players to
the club house. He permitted them
to return for the fifth inning but
Robinson continued the argument1
and got tne thumb.
Jackie angrily threw his but to-
ward the dugout as he left. The bat
struck the top of the dugout and
bounced into the stands where it
hit Usher Harry Yelvington on the
head. Yelvington wasn’t injured but
he kept the bat as a souvenir and
said there were no hard feelings.
Robinson says: "I'm extremely
sony an 1 apologized to the guy.
I Just held the bat a second too long
air than
1 didn't.
