(UPi A credentials committee of

nut tee has reoessed at Mineral
Wells after hearing a part of the
case from Harris County.
The committee is hearing 25 con-
tests in alphabetical order. The
Harris County contest involves the
most delegates- 790.
The man who is objecting to the
Harris County delegation. Thomas
Stovall Jr , presented his case be-
fore the recess. He argued that
there were 89 illegal uppuintees to
the Harris County executive com-
mittee. and thus the executive com-
mittee could nor legally certify the
delegation.
There Is no competing delegation
from Harris County; thus, If the
protest should be sustained, there
would be no delegation at all from
Harris County. The delegation is a
pro-Yarborough liberal group.
The other big contested delega-
tion on which hearings have been
held Is from Bexar County, which
has 345 delegates. A liberal delega-
tion was selected from Bexar Coun-
ty and conservative Democrats held
a rump convention and selected
their own.
The conservative group argues
that the loyalist group carried out
a number of acts bearing on the
selectio nof the delegates without
a quorum present. /
The credentials committee will
decide what to do about the con-
tested delegations after it has
heard all the protests.
