Mrs. Miller's 6th grade art
class spent part of last week
working on Valentine wreaths.
This was an activity that created
much excitement and was
enjoyed by all. They have
recently looked at the possible
careers that are available in the
field of art. Mrs. Miller reported
that she has several students
who have great potential for a
career in art.
The Valentine Survey that
was a fund-raiser for the DHS
Junior ("lass also created vast
interest. Students filled out
questionnaires a couple of
weeks ago listing their likes,
dislikes, opinions, etc. and
through a computer match up
they had a chance to purchase
the results of they survey. The
results listed whom the students
were most compatible with in
terms of boyfriend/girlfriend
and best friend. A sheet
containing only names of people
on the middle school campus
could be purchased or for an
additional buck, students could
see whom they might be well
suited for in high school as well.
These surveys were quite the
topic of conversations for
several days.
March 4 & 5 have been set as
tentative dates for parents to
come and view 8th grade
students' slide shows in
computer literacy. Mrs. Miller
said that she would he getting a
note home soon with more
details about this visit.
This is always a nice
opportunity for parents to be on
our campus and see what is
going on w ith our students. It is
amazing what our 8th graders
can do on the computer***^
The final deadline for the
yearbook is Friday. February
20. Students in Mrs. Miller's
8th grade classes have been
working on organizing and
identifying pictures for that
project. always- look,
forward to jyzeing the Finished
product at the end of school.
The writing portion of TAKS
will be given to all 7th grade
students on Tuesday, February
24. We would ask parents to
please help in having students in
the very best possible shape for
that exam.
Mrs. McNutt suggests that
students keep to a reasonable,
normal schedule and get enough
sleep the night before the.lest.
Please be sure that students are
at school on time on that day.
They should have several
sharpened #2 pencils for the
test. It is a good idea for
students to have something to
eat before school on the 24th in
order to have plenty of
biainpower to do well on the
writing. The exam will be
untimed and students may take
as much as time as necessary to
Finish.
The 7th & 8th grade boys
began working out for track on
Monday, February 9. Right
now their workout consists of
running a mile., with the distance
people going a greater distance
to get ready for the competitions
coming up.
The 7th & 8th grade girls
began working out on Tuesday,
February 17. The groups of
both boys & girls are staying
after school to run. They will be
involved in four track meets.
The first one will be at Hico on
March 5. The competition will
then be held in Glen Rose on
March 11 and in Comanche on
March 26. with track coming to
a close w ith the district meet in
Hico on Saturday, April 3.
Several students from our
DMS campus have checked out
during the last few weeks and
moved elsewhere. We have also
enrolled a couple of new
students. As things now stand
our 6th grade class is the largest
on our campus with 112, the 8th
grade numbers 97, and 7th grade
is our currently our smallest
group with 93 students. That
.brings .the total count for our
campus to 302.
Library receives book
Mr. & Mrs. Gil Roberts
donated a copy of their book,
Keith Descendants of Stephen
and Rebecca Keith: the Texas
Years, to the Dublin Public
Library.
The book is extremely well
researched. It contains many
pictures, copies of documents,
census records to prove the
family connections and
activities. The first documented
ancestor was a Norman named
Hervey who received the lands
of Keth, in Lothian, in c.1150.
The book includes a picture of
the Keith tartan and a picture of
Dunnottar Castle.
