Week is Slated
At Lake Texoma
Wanna go tag ish fishing? In
order to show the fishing public
Just how the tagging of fish in the
$2,500 added Lake Texoma Fishing
Derby works, the week of May 23-
28 Is being designed as “Tag Fish
Fishing Week,” President Wick
Fondren announced.
,During the week the public is go-
ing to be invited to fish at a half
du*cn different resorts avound the
lake and all of the fish caught will
be tagged and releused hr their
presence,
The number will be recorded and
then the actual cash value placed
on the fish—either $5. $10, $24. $50
oi4 $100—will be added by the tag-
ged fish committee.
“We already have some 1,200 tag-
ged fish in the lake and we hope
to tag several hundred more during
the special week,” said Fondren.
"We will tag every type fish caught
during the week.’’
Fondren pointed out that the
resorts designated will have com-
plete Instructions on handling the
fish during that special week and
tagging experts from The Texas
Game and Fish Commission will
tag only the fish they feel will sur-
vive.
So far during tire first forty-five
days of the Fishing Derby. 64 tag-
ger fish have been caught.
Far in front in the tagged fish
derby Is Rock Creek Cami>—8 miles
northwest of Gordonville .Texas—

Boston—The Boston Red Sox live
madea move which indicates they
think Ted Williams will re-join the
team
General Manager Joe Cronin
spoke to Williams by telephone
yesterday shortly after Williams’
wife was granted a divorce in Maimi
Cionin says nothing was decided
but he must be hopeful. For Joe
has placed Williams on the re-
stricted list. This makes it possible
for Ted to play immediately after
he signs, if he does, even if he
signs after the cut down deadline
which is midnight tomorrow.
Williams also indicated he would
come out of retirement by trying
to book space on a plane leaving
Miami for New Jersey early last
evening. The 100-thousand-dollar
a year outfielder failed to show
up when the plane took off. but
the Red Sox are checking all flights
north.
The Green Bay Packers have
signed their 24th draft choice. He
is former Nebraska Linebacker
Charley Bryant.
The Kentucky Derby winner.
‘ Swaps’’ heads a list ol 50 nomi-
nated for the 50-thousand-dollar
Westerner Stakes at Hollywood
Park. Three also ran in the Derby.
"Jean's Joe," "Honey’s Alibi” and
“Nabesna”, also were nominated
for the California face on July
eighth.

Chevrolet "Turbo-Fire V8”!
This is the engine that’s writing a
whole new chapter in the book of
automobile performance records. This
is the engine that has stock car timers
doing a "double take” at their stop-
watches wherever experts gather to
compare the abilities of the 1955 cars.
For example, in the recent NASCAR *
Stock car competition at Daytona
Beach, Florida, Chevrolet literally ran
away from every other car in its class
—and a raft of others besides. In the
one-mile straightaway run for low-
priced cars, the first two places—and
six of the first ten—went to Chev-
rolets. And in acceleration runs from a
standing start against all comers,
the Motoramic Chevrolet beat all other
low-priced cars—and every high-priced
car except onel
What’s behind this blazing perform-
ance? A compact honey of a V8 that
only the world’s leading producer of
valve-in-head engines can build. Chev-
rolet’s new "Turbo-Fire V8”.
It puts a new kind of fun in your
driving life. You're in charge of 162
high-spirited horsepower — or if you’re
looking for even more excitement, the new
"Super Turbo-Fire X'8" (optional at
extra cost) puts ISO h.p. under your toe!
Pick the one you’d rather have fun
with, then come in and get behind the
wheel. You’ll see why the Motoramic
Chevrolet is showing its heels to every-
one else on the road!

Navarro Bulldogs, since first com-
peting in baseball in ’49—have won
six conference pennants .In ’54 NJC
won the Texas Junior College
"world series" to become stpte
champs.
NJC Coach Ralph Holly wood,
hestitant to make a prediction, stat-
ed “it’s hard to forsee how the
boys feel—but if we look as good
as we did against Odessa, we’ll
take it (the chamuionahln)."
Peris Is fast becoming ablg NJC
rival Last year the Dragons cost
Navarro a championship In football
by dealing the Corsicana squad Its
only conference loss.
The two college teams are again
undefeated—this time in baseball
conference play. Paris dropped Pa-
nola 7-1 to Win the Zone 2 cham-
pionship. Panola lost to NJC last
year, 5-4 for the state champion-
ship.
This year saw three famllar
faces rise as zone pennant winners.
Odessa, Zone 1; Navarro, Zone 2;
and Pans, Zone 3. Paris drew- a
by” while NJC played Odessa in
Corsicana May 7 to decide the Paris
opponent. The Odessa squad folded
to an unmerciful Coraioana club.
NJC sent them home wilh a 21-1
loss. Pitcher Bill Barnes of NJC
tossed a 3-hitter and fanned 9—
while the Bulldogs pounded out 19
hits. Barnes is the probable starter
for NJC Saturday.
