Hours change this month for Veteran's Services Officer

The office of the Wharton
County Veteran’s Service Offi-
cer will be adjusting its hours
beginning next Monday.
New hours will be from
7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every
Monday, Tuesday and Thurs-
day
On Fridays, the officer will
be available by appointment
only
The Veteran’s Service Of-
ficer is located in the Frank
Shannon building at 1017 N.
Alabama Road in Wharton,
about one-half mile south of
the H-E-B store on the west
side of Alabama Road.
On Wednesdays, the Vet-
eran’s Service Officer will be
in the reference room of the El
Campo Branch of the Whar-
ton County Library, 200 W.
Church St. in El Campo, from
10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Veterans are asked to call
532-1311 before coming to
either location in order to be
provided with information on
what to bring to the office.

A silent auction benefiting the
March of Dimes will be held from
Thursday, April 3, to Friday, April 18,
at Prosperity Bank East Bernard Bank-
ing Center.
■ Quicken Books Workshop
A Quickbooks 2013 "hands-on"
workshop will be held from 9 a.m.
until 4 p.m. Saturday at Northside
Education Center, 707 Fahrenthold
St. in El Campo. Cost is $99 per per-
son includes instruction, light lunch,
pdf manual and certificate of comple-

by the University of Houston Coastal
Plains Small Business Development

■ Sealy Dance Club
Sealy Dance Club will be hosting a
public dance from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
Saturday at the American Legion Hall
in Sealy. The music will be by This Is It.
Folks, bring some kind of food, cake,
sandwiches, chips, dips, etc. The club
furnishes coffee.
It is all put together in the kitchen
and eaten at the 9:30 p.m. break.

Holy Cross Church in East Bernard
will host a community blood drive
from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday in
the church's education building. To

■ DAV Meeting
The DAV Chapter No. 72 is hav-
ing a scheduled meeting Monday,
April 7, at the El Campo VFW Hall
beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a short
social and then supper. The Chapter
meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and both
of these meetings are important. At-
tendance is declining and a decision
needs to be made about continuing
the chapter. Contact members about
attending these meetings. For more

Garden Club Meets
Wharton Garden Club will meet
at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 10 at the
Wharton County Historical Museum,
3615 N. Richmond Road. Club mem-
ber Pam Nash will give a presentation
on Herbs and Things. Visitors are
welcome.
■ S.P.O.T. Trot
The 6th annual S.P.O.T. Trot/5K
Race, in memory of Amber Hensar-
ling, D.V.M., will be held Saturday,
April 12 at Riverfront Park in Wharton.
There will also be music, concessions,
contests, children's activities, a raffle
and silent auction and the 1-mile Trot.
Registration forms available at Al-
amont and Wharton veterinary clinics
in Wharton and East Bernard Animal
Hospital.

■ EBHS Blood Drive
East Bernard Student Council
will hold its third blood drive for the
2013-2014 school year on Wednes-
day, April 16. Students, teachers and
members of the community are invit-
ed to participate. The blood drive will
be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
in the old high school gym. Call Mar-
ian Merritt at 335-7519 to schedule
an appointment or just walk in. Also

■ Aggie Muster
The Wharton County A&M Club
will host an Aggie Muster Monday,
April 21 at the Wharton Civic Center.
Social hour starts at 5:30 p.m. with
dinner at 6:30 p.m. Porter Garner,
Class of 1979 and president and
CEO of the Association of Former
Students, will be the guest speaker.

Admission is free and the public is
invited. The group will also be holding
its plant sale at the same time. Gar-
den club members will have member-
grown plants for sale to the public.
Some will be planted in unigue con-

■ Book Review/Luncheon
Wharton Book Review Club will
host its annual review and luncheon
on Monday, May 5 at the Wharton
County Historical Museum. Guest re-
viewer will be Susan G. Baker, author
of Passing it On: An Autobiography
With Spirit.
Her review will begin at 10 a.m.
The book tells of the personal and
political life as wife of former Secre-
tary of State James A. Baker III. The
catered luncheon will begin at 11:30
a.m.
Members are free for the review
and the luncheon is $5. Guests may
attend the review and luncheon for a
cost of $15.
There is a deadline for luncheon
