At a point slightly eastward and
northward from the main struc-
ture, skilled workmen and heavy
machines are moving approxi-
mately 10,000 cubic yards of earth
daily to construct an uncontrolled
spillway which will serve as a
“safety valve" for the main dam
The spillway is bring built to an
elevation of ITt feet Because it
will be 14 feet lower than the
main structure, it will permit un
usual flood waters to escape from
the rsocrvrir without
the high dam. The spillway b en-
gineered for uk only In am at
the “flood of recced."
The MOO-foot spillway 1
built by Spencer Construct
of Carrottoo, Texas, anti will cost
$499,880. Now approximately 30
per cent complete, It is scheduled
for completion in March, 1969.
Engineers point out that the spill-
way la being constructed specific-
ally for the 110-foot dam
would fail to serve as ail
valve for a smaller structure.

under way is the 8,000-foot bridge

bright determined by the total el-
evation of the main dam. Its floor
elevation is 196.13 feet to provide
an ample margin of safety above
the surface of the big take in the
event of extreme floods.
The bridge, casting $1,799,029,
now is 18 per cent complete and Is
scheduled for completion next
January. Contractor is the F and

which also Is building the east and

’Hitting pay dirt” is a once-in-a-blue
moon experience for the mining pros-
pector. But you “hit pay dirt” every
payday. The important thing is to keep
it from slipping through your fingers.
Systematically saving something every
week, will give you an ever-growing
“stake” in the future.
