Candidate

*■ LIVINGSTON - The Polk
County Enterprise will publish
^ political announcements from
'•'fthose who have filed as candidates
ti the March 12 primary elec-
,!|3ons.
Announcements must be re-
ceived in the Polk County Enter-
prise office no later than 5 p.m.
Monday, Jan 7.
Announcements may be pre-
pared by the candidate in advance
and submitted to the newspaper
or a candidate may contact the
Enterprise for an interview.
These one-time political an
nouncements are considered news
stories. There is no charge and
the announcements are subject to
editing.
We prefer to run a picture of
the candidate with the announce-
ment. For editorial purposes, we
will picture only the candidate,
although pictures which include
the candidate’s family • may be
used in paid political advertise-
ments.
Those who already have a suit-
able photograph may submit it
for publication with their an-
nouncement. For those who do
not have a photo, the Enterprise
staff will be available to take pic-
tures of candidates for use in an-
nouncements and advertisements
which are to run in any Polk
County Publishing Co. publica-
tion.
on the outside of Miss Effie's Cot-
tage, Anniversary Park, City Hall,
Murphy Memorial Library and
Pedigo Park are hand made by the
employees of the Parks and Recrea-
tion Department. The city Electric
Department aids in the program by
providing electrical outlets and line
to power the creations. The Water
and Street departments provide as-
sistance with equipment and logis-
tics to make it possible for the
community to enjoy them.
The idea to start ‘this program
was originally funded three years
ago by a generous gift from the
Pine Cone Festival Association.
Since that time, we have been able
to continue the program with help
from many local businesses, com-
munity groups and individuals.
Christmas events
Each of the events are sponsored
by the City of Livingston, but
businesses, organizations and others
make the events bigger and better
each year. For example, the Living-
ston Specialty Merchants Guild, the
Polk County Garden Club, the
Polk County Heritage Society and
the county made the Christmas on
the Square event happen this year.
City employees, their spouses and
community members volunteer to
make these events possible, as
well.
Community support and
participation
The biggest thanks should go out
to each and every community
member that participates in the
events. Whether it is signing up for
the Jingle Bell Run, decorating for
the Tour of Lights Decorating Con-
test, or putting together a float for
the parade, each person is giving of
themselves for the good of our
community. That is what the sea-
son is all about and I personally
want to thank each of you for what
you do. You are the people that
make a difference in our comltfL
.. mil*
__________jUl
nity.
In summary, let’s take the time
to enjoy all of the Christmas cheer
that everyone is providing in our
area. I know the effort that goes
into providing these services and I
appreciate all those who make Liv-
ingston a little better place to live
and enjoy (hiring the Christmas
season.
2002 Calendars
The new calendars are at the
printers now and should be avail-
able next week. We will have them
for the public at city hall, the li-
brary and each of the businesses
that sponsored an ad.
