Judge Biery To Speak At
TLU Winter Commencement
SEGUIN - The Honorable
Fred Biery, United States District
Court judge for the Western Dis-
tinct of Texas located in San Anto-
nio, will serve as the
commencement speaker at Texas
Lutheran University’s winter com-
mencement exercises slated
Tuesday, Dec. 18.
A 1970 graduate of TLU, Biery
is in his 24th year of judicial ser-
vice and has served on the federal
bench since 1994.
“We are pleased to welcome
Judge Biery, one of our most dis-
tinguished alumni, back to his
alma mater.” said Stephen Ander-
son, Mtor vice-president for uni-
versity relatipns. “We know that
studfmts, faculty and other guests
— and, most importantly, the
graduating class of December
2001 — will eryoy his message and
benefit from it.”
Judge Biery earned his under-
graduate degree from TLU in
1970. As a student, he played var-
sity basketball and was president
of the Student Government Asso-
ciation. He was the first former
student to fill the recent graduate
position on the TLU Board of Re-
gents, and served as a regent for
30 years — the longest tenure of
any regent in TLU history.
He is a recipient 6f the TLU Dis-
tinguished Alumni Award. His doc-

Commencement exercises will
begin at 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec.
18, in the university’s Jackson Au-
ditorium. The event is free and
open to the public.

Homeschool Choir Helps Out
With Lutheran Worship Service

CLIFTON — The Bosque Area
Christian Homeschool Choir paid
a special visit to Immanuel Luth-
eran Church last Sunday and
helped out with the church’s
morning worship service. The
choir, under the direction of Karen
Thomasy, has performed at a va-
riety of locales throughout the
year.
The choir performed the choral
response, “Tiny King,” by Joyce
Eilers Bacak, then later provided
the choral verse, “Go Ttell It On
The Mountain.”
The girls nf the choir sang
“Shepherds Saw a Bright Star: by
Jean Pasquet for the choral offer-
ing.
The choir gathers at

“We are happy to have these
wonderful children gather at our
church, and are grateful to them
and their parents for allowing
them to sing during our morning
worship service,” said the Rev.

meet at Rainbow Village in Clifton
on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at noon.
A noon meal consisting of bar-
becue steak and sausage, with all
the trimmings, will be served by
the food committee.
A program will follow the meal.

to provide books to needy children
in Bosque Cdunty. All members
are asked to bring a book offering
to the meeting.
