cery in the community of
lVJayfield, Hill County. He
grew up in his childhood
years in Mayfield. When he
tdmed 12, his father bought
a.grocerv store in Bynum where the family moved.
He graduated from Bynum High School in the
Spring of 1954 and entered the United States Navy
fqr a four year stint.
' During a break after more than tow years in the
Navy, before being reassigned to a tour of duty at
s£a, he proposed to Wanda Sue “Susie” Robertson,
a;girl he had known since childhood. The engage-
ment lasted for 14 months until his discharge from
the Navy on May 26, 1958. Two weeks after he re-
ceived his discharge from the Navy, the couple was
married in the Mayfield Baptist Church on June 6,
They immediately moved to Clifton where James
w£nt to work for his father who had bought out Hugh

for several years with his father and when his fa-

In 1973, he and his father bought out Schmidt-
Meyer Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge Dealership and
for several years they operated this automobile
dealership on Hwy. 6 where Morgan’s Auto now is
located. Corpier and his father sold the dealership
in the mid-seventies, but he continued in the used
car dealership business, and operated Corpier Mo-
tors until 1985. He went back to school to the police
academy and became a deputy with the Bosque
County Sheriff’s department for a few more years
until he retired in 1988. Law enforcement was some-
thing he had done as a navy shore patrolman.
Over the next few years of retirement, he helped
to take care of his father Earl and his mother Mar-
garet until their deaths. Across his lifetime, Corpier
was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fish-
ing, camping, golf, and motorcycle riding. He loved
spending time with his two grandchildren. In his
younger years, he built some drag racers and enjoyed
dag car racing. He also was a member of the Clifton
Masonic Lodge and served as a Justice of the Peace
and as the City Judge of Clifton in the 1980s. He was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton.
