CLIFTON — The Clifton Chamber of
Commerce’s annual Norwegian County
Christmas Tour is scheduled each year
on the first Friday and Saturday in De-
cember.
“Clifton, the Norwegian Capital of
Texas... and So Much More!” kicks off
the holiday season with Norwegian Coun-
try Christmas.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec.
1, the downtown will come alive with
marching bands and lighted floats wind-
ing their way through the downtown area
and featuring characters to delight the
young and old at heart.
The theme for the parade has not been
set as yet.
Sponsored by the Clifton Chamber of
Commerce, the 13th annual Norwegian
County Christmas Tour, slated Saturday,
Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is high-

Downtown Clifton
lighted by the fascinating Heritage Village
in Clifton City Park, the historical Bosque
Memorial Museum, the Bosque Conserva-
tory, an array of homes, St. Olaf’s (The Old
Rock Church) Church, and Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church at Norse.
“Feel free to set your own itinerary as
you tour the sites,” said Chamber Execu-
tive Vice-President Gene Ellis Sills, Ed.D.
“There is something for everyone offered
on the tour this year.”
Heritage Village at The Armory in Clif-
ton City Park will offer a number of artisan
demonstrators, arts and crafts, as well as
Norwegian and German homemade
sweets, treats, and German sausage. The
Bosque Memorial Museum’s exquisite col-
lection is highlighted by a special Christ-
mas display. The annual Gallery of TVees
will be set up at the Bosque Conservatory
featuring an array holiday trees and deco-
rations, as well as a gingerbread house
“village,” and a wide variety of other dis-
plays.
A stop on the tour will be at Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church at Norse. Local storytell-
ers at the church will answer visitor’s ques-
tions about the early history of the
Norwegian settlement in Bosque County.
The next stop on the tour is at the Old Rock
Church outside Cranfills Gap where vari-
ous entertainers will be performing
throughout the day. The early history of the
settlers can be seen in the regal church
sitting on the hill with no modem luxuries
such as electricity or air conditioning. Heat-
ing of the church is still done with the large
wood stove that stands in the comer of the
church.
Following the tour, the downtown area
will come alive with the arrival of Santa
Claus, Norwegian folk dancers, and the op-
portunity for visitors to cruise through vari-
ous shops for a unique holiday shopping
tour.
