MERIDIAN — By unanimous
vote, members of Bosque County
Commissioners' Court have pro-
posed a fiscal 2002-03 tax rate of
$0.3395 per $100 valuation, the
same tax rate approved for the
current year’s budget. The vote
came at Monday morning’s court
meeting in Meridian
Court members were pleased to
be able to offer the same rate as
last year which, if approved, will
slightly lessen the deficit budget
the county currently is operating
under. A public hearing will be
held at 9 a m. Monday, Sept 9, for
citizens to offer comments about
the proposed rate A final vote to
adopt a tax rate is planned Mon
day morning, Sept. 23
“I looked at the figures, and
we’re in the bottom 25 percent in
the state,” Pet. 4 Commissioner
Jim Burch said Of the three coun
ties in the 220th Judicial District,
Bosque County’s tax rate is by far

CLIFTON — Reba Robertson
was honored Saturday night at the
Bosque Conservatory Tin Build-
ing Theatre when Chanda
Robertson announced the Francis
Watson Award recipient.
During the Omar Award cer-
emony, “The Diviners” walked
away with Best Play and three
other awards, while “Moon Over
Buffalo" took Best Actor and Ac-
tress awards along with five oth-
ers. Chanda Robertson was top on
the list of winners with three
Omars, and “Everything’s Rela-
tive” walked away with one Omar.
Unable to attend the 20th An-
nual Omar Awards at the theatre
due to her health, Reba Robertson
said, when told of the award, “I am
pleased to be honoredhar thi?

During the announcement of the
award, Robertson said that “this
year’s recipient has certainly
spent a lifetime in the theatre, but
only a small part of life’s work has
been with the TBT. Nonetheless,

USDA Announces Federal Funding
To City Of Clifton With $138,000 Grant
CLIFTON - On Wednesday,
Aug. 28, USDA Rural Develop-
ment State Director Bryan Daniel,
Johnny Smith, and Cindy Estill of
the Hillsboro USDA Rural Devel-
opment office, formally presented
the City of Clifton with an over-
sized replica of a $138,000 grant-
award check approved for the City
of Clifton. The presentation was
made at Cross Creek Furniture
Company in Clifton.
In announcing the grant award.
State Director Daniel said that the
City of Clifton received the
$138,000 grant to assist new and
existing small businesses, includ-
ing Cross Creek Fbrniture, and to
assist in the widening of Highway
6 and FM 219 in Clifton.
The city was awarded the funds
through the Rural Business Enter-
prise Grant program which spe-
cifically targets small business.

Last year volunteers served
about 2,800 meals that included
1,800 pounds of catfish, 1,000
pounds of potatoes, 700 pounds of
cole slaw, and 125 gallons of tea
and lemonade.
West Shore VFD is funded pri-
marily by donations, and this an-
nual fish fry is its main fund-raiser.
West Shore provides fire protec-
tion, first response medical sup-
port plus rescue and underwater
recovery for the community.

of Clifton has recently presented
a donation to the Nellie Pederson
Civic Library in honor of his
mother, Inga Belle Larson, on her
90th birthday this month. The li-
brary has purchased several
large-print Christian Romanaces,
Mrs. Larson’s favorites, with the
donation.
Several others have given books
and audio cassettes recently, in-
cluding Dr. Elizabeth McEntire
and Vivian Ender who have en-
