KHS STUCO DONATION - Members of Kermit High School Student Council present a check
to Eunice Reese of Winkler County Greater Works. The Stuco raised over $400 in cash and
over 70 cans of food.

benefits Greater Works
Kermit High School student
body on May 30 under the
leadership of the KHS Student
Council raised $400 in cash and
70 cans of food to be donated
to the Winkler County Greater
Works through participation in
a dodge ball tournament. The
Winkler County Greater Works
provides food each month for
over 140 families in need of
assistance in Winkler County.
Eighty-eight members of the
student body participated in the
contest. Eleven student teams
The Kermit Volunteer
Fireman’s Golf Tournament was
held last weekend at Winkler
County Golf Course. One of the
highlights was a hole-in-one on
the Par 3 second hole by Matt
Creager on Sunday. Creager
used a 9 iron on the 185 yard
hole.
Taking first place honors in
the Championship Flight was
the team of Ariel Lujan, Tyler
Briones and Ryan Dean with
a two-do total score of 59-57:
116. Second place with a score
of 60-61:121 went to Ricky
Kidd, Brenton Kidd and Brian
Swisher. Third place team was
Adiel and Erick Alvarado and
Troy North with scores of 58-
64:122.
Mike Emmerson, Clay
Mitchell and Michael Magee
took the top spot in the First
Flight with scores of 63-61:124.
Coming in second with 63-
62:125 was the team of Steve
Turnbo, Larry McNew and Matt
Creager. Third place with scores
of 64-63:127 went to Lane,
Shannon and Lauren Nutt.
In the Second Flight, Andy
and Kenny Hrncir and Craig
Summers shot rounds of 68-
61:129 to take the top spot.
Mike, Shane and Joey Wenzel
competed for the opportunity to
play the faculty team. Earning
this honor was the Goon Squad.
This team which was defeated by
the faculty team was composed
of Jared Easley, Xavier Quiroz,
Ozzie Lujan, Nathan Ornales,
Adrian Carrasco, Isaiah Saenz,
Omega Lujan and Kay lie
Aranda. Faculty team members
were Steve Taylor, Ross Lowery,
Cody Guynes, William Marsh,
Arick Heredia, Irma Hernandez,
Ashley Alderson and Jeffery
Toliver.
came in second with rounds of
68-63:131. Third place went to
Clyde, Gary and Lauren Henson
with scores of 67-65:132.
Top honors in the Third
Flight with scores of 69-65:134
went to the team of Joey and
Dale Greene and Lance Wood.
Second place went to Zack,
Britney and Lee Hanna with
scores of 70-65:135. Emmitt and
Tiffany Bale and Terry Jarrett
were third with scores of 70-
68:138.
In the Fourth Flight
competition, Roger and Diane
Sutton and Forrest Henson came
in first with scores of 71-69:140.
Coming in second were Bobby
and Matt Leyva and Terry
Gonzales with rounds of 72-
69:141. Finishing in third place
was Jack and Cody Birden and
Marietta Hixs with scores of 72-
70:142.
Steve, Steve Jr. Gordon and
Scott McCarthy had the top
scores in the Fifth Flight with
scores of 75-71:146. Placing
second were Jackie, Lisa and
Jaycie Mills will rounds of
75:74:149. Finishing in third
with scores 76-75:151 were
Brian Duncan, Clayton and
Micah Hawkins.
Student Council members
drew brackets, developed
publicity, arranged for clean-up,
acquired tournament equipment,
and solicited the help of the
Kermit High School Debate
Club to operate concessions as
they organized this tournament
as a community service project.
Each student brought two cans of
food or paid two dollars to watch
or participate in the tournament.
Stuco Adviser Evelyn
Lockwood said, “This
tournament gives the student
body an opportunity to give
back to the community while
having fun and gives our Stuco
members an opportunity to grow
as they use their skills to organize
and produce the tournament.
We greatly appreciate
the KISD Administration
support and recognizing
the benefits of this activity
and allowing us to have it.”
