Sheriff invites citizens to join
COLLEGE STATION - County
Clerk of Polk County Barham Mid-
dleton joined over 400 county and
district clerks for the 27th annual
County and District Clerks' Con-
tinuing Education Seminar at the
College Station Hilton Conference
Center March 16-18.
The event was sponsored by the
V.G. Young Institute of County
Government, which is part of the
Texas Agricultural Extension Serv-
ice. The institute seeks to provide
information and educational and
technical assistance to elected offi-
cials at no additional cost to' tax-
payers.
"Texas is one of a very small
number of states that requires all
elected officials to earn continuing
educational credits," explained John
Gilmartin, extension coordinator of
the institute. "We provide that serv-
ice to county commissioners,
judges, treasurers, tax assessor-
collectors and county and district
clerks."
The theme for the seminar was
"Teamworic Allows Common Peo-
ple to Achieve Uncommon Goals.”
Included were education workshops
on child support, civil and criminal
appeals, probate, fraudulent filing
anil new technologies.
Middleton is serving on the
County and District Clerks’ Legis-
lative Committee for the 76th Leg-
islature meeting in Austin this
year. This is her third year to serve
on that committee. Retired Army
Col. Howard Daniel Jr. of Living-
ston was the keynote speaker. Dan-
iel, a graduate of Prairie View
