Farmers and ranchers are ad-
vised that the Soil Conservation

Courthouse at Meridian. The new
office is located on the third floor,
over the County Judge’s office.

during the last week. P. E. Dansby
will construct this pond.,
Mrs. Ernest Rohne of the Upper
Meridian Creek reports that fish
placed in their farm pond about
this time in 1949 are now large
enough to eat. Time has not per-
mitted much harvest as yet, but
indications are that a good return
in food will be taken. Fertilizer has
been used during the summer.

owns a farm near Cayote, had two
pastures rested from grazing dur-
ing the growing season. Both pas-
tures grew large amounts of grass
and seeded well. Grass from these
pastures is being harvested now

Farmers cooperating with the
District conservation program are
having constructed terraces that
a -e larger and more workable than
those constructed in previous
years. Most terraces are of the
channel type, having an overall
width of about 36 feet, a ridge of
ro feet and a channel of 7 feet.
More than 9 square feet of soil are
cut in the channel, height from
channel bottom to top of ridge is
usually about 18 inches and water
carrying capacity is more than 20
square feet. The Bosque County
Commissioners’ Court, composed
of Evans Ficklin, S. U. Jones, M.
V. Bonds and Emmett Harris, has
been very cooperative in allowing
more time for each job in order
to improve terrace quality. In each
case, farmers have been in favor
of larger and more workable ter-
races. P. M. A. and its County Com-
mittee have given farmers approval
for large channel type terraces
that drew a payment of $79.20 per
mile.
