,Mr and Mrs. Emil Olson and
sons, Joe Vance and Royce Earl,
of Covington, are visiting Mr. and
Mrs. Bernt Bertelson and other
relatives this week at Cranfills Gap.
Mrs. Olson will leave June 22 for
Washington, D. C., where she will
be joined by her nephew, Cprporal
wards, the men of the 3§th liyed
ip tents and practiced the then
new art of amphibious warfare. In
October the Division staged a mock
invasion of Martha’s Vinyard. The
Texans were cold tested in weather
that reached twenty degrees below
zero during the winter on the Cape.
After sections of the Division re-
ceived Special training at Piney
River, Virginia, the 36th sailed
from the New York Port of Em-
barkation on April 2, 1943. Eleven
days later the Atlantic convoy car-
rying the T-patchers arrived at
Oran, Algeria.-
Jodie W. Amundson recalls that
“although we had lost a number
of the Original hometown boys
through transfers to the Air Corps,
etc., 20 of the original detachment,
plus 170 Yankees, with the rest of
the Regiment set sail from Staten
Island on April 2, 1943.” The “20

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carr and
daughter, -Nellie Jean, were in
Rockwall this past week-end to visit
Mrs. Carr’s mother, Mbs. J. M. Nel-
son, and to take part in the annual
Rockwall High School alumni gath-
ering and banquet. Also present
for the banquet was Gend Martin,
formerly employed 3S linotype ope-

now with the Dallas Morning News.

dren were born to their marriage—
one son, Henry Knust, who lives
just south of Womack, and eight

tler, deceased, Mrs. E. C. (Pearl)
Johle, deceased, Mrs. Otto C. (Ot-
tilie) Rueter, who lives east of
Clifton, Mrs. E. C. (Rosa) Johle,
east of Clifton, Mss. Hubert (Louise)
Dittrich, east of Clifton, Mrs. B. I.
(Emma) Dahl, east of Clifton, Mrs.
Calvert (Ida) Hoel, deceased, and
Mrs. Richard , (Regina) Kuretsch, of
Seguin.
In the early years of their mar-
riage Mr. and Mrs. Knust lived in
the . Steiner Community. In 1890
they purchased what is known as
the Knust Homestead property, the
land on which Calvert Hoel now
makes his home in the Womack
Community^During his lifetime
Mr. Knust mfd his wife acquired
approximately 1,500 acres of land,
all in the Womack Community with
the exception of 300 acres near
Kopperl. This land still is owned
by either the children or grand-
children of Mr. and Mrs. Knust.
Mrs. Knust makes her home with
her children. She still enjoys life,
is quite active, and takes pleasure
in meeting and talking with hpr
Beach, historical. Williamsburg and
Jamestown, and the Natural Bridge
in Virginia, the Smoky Mountains,
and Rock City and Hot Springs,
Arkansas.

Huse home during the week-end
were Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Peterson
and children, Linda Kay and Rich-
ard, of Waco arid Mr. and Mrs.
Wesley Hall and children. Sandra,

Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Bronstad left
Cranfills Gap Sunday morning for
Fort Worth from where they were
accompanied by Mrs. Allen Bron-
stad and children, Donna and Tom-
my, to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,
for a visit in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. G. O. Bronstad.
Mr. and Mrs. Odell Knudson and
daughters, Carolyn and Marilyn,
returned to Carlsbad, New Mexico,
Sunday, after visiting here with
Mrs. Knudson’s mother, Mrs. Malin-
da Rohne, since the death of Mr.
Knudson’s mother, Mrs. Alfred
Knudson.
Mrs. S. B. Johnson of Clifton
spent from Sunday until Thursday
of this week in Cranfills Gap with
her son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. E. D. Johnson. Other
