Hyped-Up Hypotheses And Incredibly
Stupid Questions Inundate Columnist
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
There are a number of questions
I’ve been asked in my lifetime,
mind-boggling questions that, in-
deed, perplex the Western mind.
However, when I consider them, I
have to ask a question of my own:
Who wants to know, anyhow?
Remember the proverbial ques-
tion, "What happens when an ir-
resistible force collides with an
immovable object?” Well, my hus-
band says it depends on which one
he is at the time.(He has a good
point. He can be both charming and
obstinate.)
What about the one, 'If a tree falls
in the forest and there’s no one there
to hear it, does it make a noise?”
Now, is that dumb or what?
I once had a science teacher who
asked me how fast a fly, flying in-
side a car going 70 miles per hour,
was flying. Tell me now, who gives
a flip?
The hypothesis that tops them all,
in my estimation, is the one that
suggests that the earth might be a
mere speck of dust on the button of
a general’s uniform in the bigger
scheme of things. (I think this the-
ory originated in the mind of the
same genius who came up with the
“Big Bang” theory of creation!)
Much more intriguing, to me, is
the question: "Are zebras white with
black stripes, or black with white
stripes?” My son insists they are
white with black stripes. But I
stumped him with this line of
reasoning: "Well then, if that’s true,
are Holstein cows white with black
spots, or black with white spots?"
When I was a little girl, my father
liked to aggravate my mother by
asking my little brother and me the
question: "Who would your daddy
be if your mother had married some-
one else?" He had a number of these
provocative questions, another be-
ing: “You've seen the way a dog cir-
cles several times before he lies
down...why doesn’t he lie down the
first time around?" Dad’s answer:
"Because he didn’t want to!”
Of course, there’s the half-glass of
water angle, "Is it half full or half
empty?”

I don’t know about you, but I don’t
lose any sleep trying to come up
with the answers to these and other
unsolved mysteries of world-
impacting significance. I have been
struggling, however, with one par-
ticular riddle. Perhaps you can help.
"If it takes a hen-and-a-halfa day-
and-a-half to lay an egg-and-a-half,
how long does it take a rooster to lay
a doorknob?”
Give up?

Letter to the Editor:
I read with interest the article on
living wills in last week’s Health-
Spectrum.
I think everyone should consider
this step, young and old. Can you
imagine leaving this life-and-death
decision in the hands of: judges, law-
yers, politicians, and bureaucrats?
I obtained my copies from a very
nice lady in the business office of
Goodall-Witcher Hospital. It is a
very simple form, easy to complete.
I bet that a request and a self-
addressed stamped envelope (busi-
ness size) will get yours. Or go by
the hospital office.

Editor’s Note: Well, readers? How
about it? WLS
Dear Editor:
In a time when there is little good
news from the courthouse I wanted
to share some with you. We are for-
tunate to have practicing in our
county a group of attorneys con-
cerned with the appearance of our
courthouse.
The following attorneys who prac-
tice in Bosque County donated
money for carpet and installation in
my office: Andy J. McMullen, Dis-
trict Attorney; James E. Morgan,
District Judge; David Christian;
Phil Robertson; Steve Robertson;
E.L. Gibbs; Robert Canonico; and
John Hastings.
Don McDonald, the court report-
er for the 220th Judicial District,
supplied the paint and the volun-
teers from the jail through the
cooperation of the sheriffs depart-
ment, did an excellent job of prepar-
ing and painting the office.
All this was accomplished with
cooperation and donations of time
and dollars from the few people list-
ed herein. We want to thank these
people for their efforts.
We are so proud of this accom-
plishment we would like to invite
the citizens of Bosque County to
come by and let us show off our new
office.
Kindest regards,
Diana M. Wellborn
