SUNDAY AUGUST 11,1991 •
THE POLK COUNTY ENTERPRISE
J? SHAKING OUT the
notebook after one busy
week:
Cheerleader
LIVINGSTON High ttchool Coach
and Mrs. Gary Mattel are the proud
parents of baby daughter bom on
Thursday morning, Aug. 8 in a Beau-
mont hospital. The Lion cheerleader
is named Kay Lee.
GARY AND HB lovely wife,
Susan, have a four-year-old
daughter.
8U8AN WAS A cheerleader four
years for the Silsbee Tigers. Gary is
a graduate and former football stan-
dout at Hardin-Jefferson High
School in Sour Lake. He played his
college ball at Southwest Texas
State University (San Marcos).
GARY AND Susan recently moved
to Livingston from Seminole (in far,
far West Texas).
THE LION players and fans are
going to love Gary and Susan. They
are the kind of folks we like to see
move to our town.
DeWalt Fieldhouse
THE LIVINGSTON coaching
staff—one of the best in many, many
years—for the past five to six weeks
have given the DeWalt Fieldhouse
on the LHS campus a painting—
Green and White. It looks mighty
sharp and labor cost was free. A
special big thanks to Jimmy Kelley.
Lions can not operate without
Kelley.
FOOTBALL drills start Monday
morning. Parents and fans are in-
vited. Take a good look at the
DeWalt Fieldhouse and give the
coaches a big thank you for a super
job.
FIRST things first: Coaches Gary
Martel and Richard Scoggin painted
the goal posts on the Lion practice
field as their coaching friends looked
on. They were chosen for the job by
Greg Reece and Paul Essary
because they were two last coaches
to join the LHS staff. Gary and
Richard better keep one eye open for
Greg and Paul.
COACH DON Clayton had plans to
help with the painting of the
fieldhouse. However, his home yard
work kept him busy. So it was folks
like Larry Greene, Paul Essary,
Greg Reece, Steve Stinson, Gary
Martel and Richard Scoggin forced
to do the Greeen and White painting.
Clayton stopped by now and then to
see how well the coaches were work-
ing.
IF YOU FOLKS need some pain-
ting done, you might call the “L”
TEAM.
A BIG THANKS must be given to
the Livingston Junior High School
coaches for their hard work the past
few weeks. The Ole JUNIOR HIGH
SCHOOL Gym and weight room has
been painted Green and White.
FOOTBALL drills for the Cubs
will start on Monday, Aug. 19—the
first day of school. There are 90
seventh graders and 66 eighth
graders signed up to play this fall.
Coach Pullen
COACH JAMES PULLEN, a
former University of Arkansas
linebacker, of Magnolia High School
had nose and throat surgery on
Wednesday, Aug. 7.
COACH PULLEN said he was
having problems getting a good
night’s sleep when he finally decided
to have some tests run. After a com-
plete examination, doctors decided
to remove Pullen’s tonsils and
adenoids. The coach, you see, had
broken his nose several times play-
ing college football.
THE SURGERY went well.
However, his doctors want him to
stay home two to four weeks. But
with two-a-day football drills
scheduled to start on Monday,
Pullen wants to come back in four
days.
THE LIVINGSTON Lions will
travel to Magnolia on Friday, Aug.
23 for a controlled scrimmage.
Livingston Lions
COACH DON Clayton and his ex-
cellent coaching staff are all set to
start pre-season football drills Mon-
day morning.
“OUR PLAYERS are ready,” the
Lion mentor said. “I feel real good
about this team. Most players we
are counting on to be on the varsity
worked hard during the summer in
the weight room. They have gained
some size and are lot stronger.’
Practice at glance
LIVINGSTON Lions will be on the
filed at 8 a.m. Monday.
