AWARD PRESENTED - Jack Coffey, safety specialist with
the Texas Associatipn of Counties (TAC), presents Polk
County’s safety award to Anna Quinones, assistant risk
manager of Polk County. The award was presented at TAC’s
annual County Management Institute May 10 in Austin.
County recognized
for safety record
I
LIVINGSTON - Polk County
has been awarded a 1999 Satiety
Award by the Texas Association of
Comities (TAC), which administers
a workers' compensation self-
insurance pool for counties ad
other local governments.
The award was presented to Polk
County on May 10 at TAC’s an-
nual County Management Institute
held in Austin.
The award was earned for die
county's record of involvement and
commitment to safety in the work-
place, as well as for controlling
their workers' compensation
claims.
The honor means that Polk
County, which participates in the
counties' pool through TAC, is
obtaining substantial savings for
their taxpayers as a result of their
TAC workers' comp coverage.
Premiums are reduced for public
entities that have lowered their
claims rates and participate in other
coverages through the self-insurance
pools administered by TAC.

1 missile cnilser USS Cape St.
' Oeorge, home ported in Norfolk,
\ Va.
During the first half of the (to-
? ployment, USS Cape St. Oeorge
I participated in live-fire qualifica-
tions at the Cape Wrath Oun Range
t in Scotland.
Sills visited several ports of call
! including cities in Cyprus, Scotland
I • and Spain. The crew also had the
! opportur ty to shop, sightsee and
| enjoy the culture and cuisine in
| each port. During these visits sail-
! ors participated in community rela-
tions projects.
Sills’ ship is one of the most
f powerful warships ever put to sea.
The computer -based AEGIS weap-
ons system is the heart of the
ship's war-fighting capability. It
centers around a powerful radar that
enables the crew to detect, track and
fire on more than 100 targets at §
time.
Sills, a 1997 graduate of Liv-
ingston High School, joined the
navy in August 1997.
To qualify for this honor, the en-
tity must have a safety program
rated in the top 13 percent of ap-
proximately 300 governmental enti-
ties that collectively self-insure
their workers' compensation in this
pool. Only 33 entities were honored
this year.
These programs are evaluated by
the Texas Association of Counties
Safety Specialists who work with
each pool member to develop loss
control and safety programs
In the evaluation of the program,
the following criteria are considered:
•safety program elements in
place;
•activity and success of program
in the 1999 calendar year;
•support for the program by the
upper management, governing
board or commission that directs
the operations of the entity;
•recent loss history; and
•improvement in the safety pro-
gram since 1998.
The TAC awards ate presented
annually.

"Happy Father's Oaf
To Our Wonderful Father
Mr. LA. Prescott Jr.
Daddy, it doesn’t seem like it has almost been
a year since you left us. We miss you so very much.
You will never leave our hearts. Dad, you left us
so many good memories. You taught us well. You
were one of a kind. This is a tribute we have for
you on this special day, “Father’s Day".
Daddy, Daddy, you know we love, you know we love you Daddy.
Daddy you ’re the king of our hearts; your love is like tears from
the stars. Daddy we want you to know that loving you is like food
to our soul, yes it is, yes it is You were there for us to always love
and care for us. Even when we were bad, you showed us right
from our wrongs, oh yes you did. You took up for us when every-
one was downing us, you always did understand. You gave us
strength to go on. There were many times looking back When we
wire so afraid; and when we were down you were always there to
comfort us. No one else could be what you have been to us. You ’ll
always be the man in our lives at all times. Daddy, Daddy you
know we love you, you know we love you Daddy.
