UJ"Mr. Oscar Dalton thB well known
proprietor of the Crockett Prinler died on
- Monday 25th ult after a long illness. He
was a native of Baton Rouge La where he
was born on ihe 22d Kebrcary 1E20. He
came to Texas as a volunteer in her army
in 1837 settling permanently in the Stale in
1840. He started the " Prinlcr " in 1833
and worked bard and perserveingly to
placo it on a firm foundation in which he
was seconded by tho labors of his family.
Be wielded a sharp and ready pen and was
an excellent paragaphi'-t. About a year
ago he was shot in a difficulty the result
of a virulent newspapr controversy bo
twecn himself and Mr. Hepperla of the
Crockett Argus and his constitution being
weak received a shock from which it did
not recover. Ho was twice married and
leaves a widow and nine children to regret
lis loss.
