way. The executive commlttea ot the Prohi-
bition party of Texas has issued the fol-
lowing final appeal to the voters of this
Stater
To the Texas Christian Voters: The State
executive committee of the Prohibition
party sends out this last appeal to the
good citizens of the State before the bal-
lot Is cast. We simply call your attention
to brief extracts from theroice of the
churches in general assemblies or conven-
tions and please note what they have said:
Cumberland Presbyterian 00 The great-
est single obstacle to religious progress In
the world Is the whisky traffic and the
strength of tha whisky traffic Is the law.
The voter it he desires to antagonize the
whisky business must antagonize the whis-
ky candidate for of ce.
General Assembly United Presbyterian
Church 1900 The assembly declares that the
legalizing of the liquor traffic Is a sin
against God and a crime against man and
that any party favoring the licensing there-
of has no right to expect and should not
receive the.votes of Christian citizens.
General Conference Methodist Episcopal
Church 1900 Reaffirming the action of the
general conference of 1SS2 we record our
deliberate judgment that no political party
has a right to expect nor ought it to re-
ceive the support of Christian- men so long
as it stands commlttea to tne license policy
or refuses to put itself on record of open
hostility to the saloon.
Southern Baptist Association 1900 We en-
ter our emphatic protest against the Is-
suance of licenses by the National Govern-
ment. We favor prohibition for the Nation
and the State and total abstinence for the
Individual and we believe that no Chris-
tian citizen should ever cast a ballot for
anv man. measure or platform that is on-
posed to the annihilation of the liquor trat--
lie.
General Assembly Preibyterian Church
1SD9 That this assembly respectfully- ap-
peals to the President of the United States
to carry tne anti-canteen law into run
force and effect in accordance with its
natural meaning and intent of Congress
by issuing an order as commander-in-chief
of the army for the total suppression of the
army saloons at least until the Attorney
General's opinion has been thoroughly test-
ed by the courts.
Baptist National Convention 1900 Resolv-
ed. That wo deplore the Introduction into
our new possessions where we have mili-
tary authority of vastly increased quanti-
ties of intoxicating liquors and that we
demand of our Government that lt take ev-
ery practicable means of preventing- the
devastating sale of ardent spirits in the
camps of our soldiers and among the new
peoples who are to be taught civilization by
our example.
Board of Control Epworth League 1900
Whereas The liquor traffic has bacome a
menace not only to our homes but to the
very Hbertfp3 of our land; therefore 5 re-
solved that the Epworth League should
maintain its uncompromising hostility to
the liquor traffic; We believe In total ab-
stinence as a rule ot temperance and In
prohibition as the principal of Christian
these inspiring and soul-cheering dec-
larations dor not warm your hearts as Chris-
tian citizens and enable you to vote as you
pray we utterly fail to And help for you.
We maite this last appeal In the hope that
lt shall accomplish good and gcodonljA

God. The evangelist showed how Caleb be-

to his auditrs the example of Caleb tha
whole-hearted as an enconragemec: to
Christian faith and obedience. First of all.
Caleb had believed the promises of God
from the first covenant of the land to Abra-
ham down to the promise to Moses that
he the Lord would enable them to enter
in and take" possession of the promised in-
heritance. Tha spies had reported the dif-
ficulties of conquering- the land but Caleb
and Joshua atone said. "We are well able
to go up at once and possess re." Forty-
five years later when the land had flnaily
been occupied under the leadership of these
two- men Caleb was still strong In faith
and was able tovlislodge the last of the
giants who made a flnaT stand on the hills
of Hebron. And so ho received Mount
Hebron for his own Inheritance a Just re-
ward for ate faith and valor. The even
temper of Caleb's disposition his manly
courage and implicit obedience were also
pointed out At the close of his life he
was able to pour out blessings upon others.

r Obedience. What was the secret of Caleb's
power? He Jiad within him another spirit
the Holy Spirit and it is only by the Holy
Spirit that we may accomplish anything
for God. Caleb's life may be summed up
in the words "He wholly followed the
Lord his God." The call of Jesus today Is.
Follow thou me."

Middling jmc
Strict middling- . -.:.."..?Jc
Tho day was a quiet one with the local
buyers wagon receipts amounting to only
twenty or thirty bales. This was attributed
principally to the presence ot the circus
and the observance of the occasion as a
holiday by the farmers and families. The
nearness of the election tended to produce
the same effect and receipts will probably
be extremely light today.
Prices were nominally unchanged but
were said to be firmer than on Saturday. A
lot of fifteen bales which was stored Sat-
urday was sold yesterday at S.33c. the best
offer at that time being S.20c The gen-
eral disposition seems to be. to hold only
the best grades selling the low ones from
the wagons.
