Cancer Fight

At Meeting
Delegates from District 14,
which includes Ennis attended
the Texas Division Annual
Meeting of the American
Cancer Society held in Houston.
Mr. and Mrs. James Wor-
sham , Rusty and Charla spent
the week-end in Lufkin with
Mrs. Russell Shambough. Rusty
and Charla stayed for a longer
visit with their grandmother.

Austin was elected President of
the Texas Division at the Wed-
nesday luncheon where the
keynote speaker was John L.
Hill, Texas Attorney General
and State Crusade Chairman
for the Cancer Society.
According to the delegates
from District 14, the meetings
involved a number of reports on
the most up-to-date activities in
cancer education and research,
and a number of case presen-
tations by people who are
fighting the cancer problem.
The meetings are very wor-
thwhile, and it was certainly
gratifying to see more than 300
volunteers from all over Texas
getting together for a common
cause.
Cancer Detection Clinics
were discussed by General Jack
Hemingway of the Cor-Bell
Unit. These were clinics
operated on a regular basis with
flexible hours and were manned
by a staff of medical volunteers
and Cancer Society Volunteers.
Exams were given for Pap
smears, chest x-rays, and
breast examinations. These
clinics were tremendously
successful in reaching hundreds
of people and were operated on
