Deport Doc
Practices,
Hunts At 91
DEPORT, Tex. — Dr.
A G. Elder saw a few patients
this week.
He chatted with some of his
fox-hunting buddies and cheeked
reservations for the Texas Fox
and Wolf Hunters Association
hunt starling Oct. 25 at Ttn-i
kawa.
And, incidentally he observed;
his 91st birthday.
Dr. Elder, the oldest practic-]
fng physician in these parts and
probably in the Southwest, hung
out his shingle 64 years ago.
He came to Deport in 1922, and
has been tending the ailments of
folks there since.
The City of Deport named
him city health officer in 1923
and the appointment still stands.
Dr. Elder attributes his 91
years to eating poke salad In
the summer, blackeyed peas and
hog jowl every New Year’s Day,
and going fox hunting every time
he gets a chance. None of these
are found in the medical books.
When the Deport doctor goes
to the Texas Fox and Wolf Hunt
in October, the trip will mark
another milestone. He hasn’t
missed one of their state meets
in 52 years.
Homer Barker received blue ribbons in the junior talent con-
ed red ribbons.
A singing group of Pat Sisson, Joy Perry, Susan and Sandra
Adams, Wayne Sisson and Jack Vest of Ravenna received a
blue ribbon in the senior division.
James Barker, president of Gober's 4-H Club welcomed
the visitors and introduced the judges. Mrs. Joetta Wallace
was the master of ceremonies for the Future Mr. and Miss
4-Her contest.
Judges for the various events were Mr. and Mrs. Perry Has-
ten, Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Dobbs, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Hall,
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cranfill, Mrs. Edith Trout, Mrs. Don-
na Brown, Clyde Moore and Wayne Roberts. -Reported
