The Voice Of The Church
by HersChel Newhouse
It is often by many that the church should speak out again-
st certain things in our society. Such statements as these be-
tray a lack of knowledge on the part of those who make them
as to what the church is. The church Is not a law making bo-
dy and has no authority to make laws. Christ said; "All pow-
er (authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth."
(Matt. 28; 18) Christ Is "the head of the body, the church;",
the head of any organization is the source of authority of that
organization; therefore, Christ is the source of authority in
all tilings pertaining to religion. No religious organization
has any authority from God to speak with any voice except
the voice of Christ. There are, I know, many organizations
called churches in the world which make their own laws and
speak with their own voices, but these are the voices of men
and not God. Neither will these laws save any soul from an
eternal hell. Christ warned; "Howbeit in vain do they wor-
ship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
(Mark 7;7) Any doctrine that does not fully agree with the
teaching of the Bible is a doctrine of man and therefore vain.
It must be admitted by all thinking persons that the con-
fusion resulting from the many conflicting voices in matters
of religion is a major cause of the moral decay in the world
today. To contend that all these voices are right is foolish.
To argue that we are all headed for the same place, but just
going different ways is ridiculous. Jesus Christ prayed that all
those who should believe on him through the words of the a-
postles might be one as he and the Father are one. The a-
postle Paul admonished the Corinthians that they all speak tire
same thing and that there be no division among them. Peter
urged that if any man speak let him speak as the oracles of
God. Jude said; "it was needful for me to write unto you, and
exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith
which was once delivered unto the saints." "The faith" is the
one faith spoken of by the apostle Paul in Eph. chapter four,
and is the teachinc of God delivered to the saints from Christ
through his apostles. This is the gospel of which Paul declar-
ed he was not ashamed and which is the power of God unto
salvation. If man is saved it will be by obedience to the
gospel of Jesus Christ. "This is my beloved Son in whom I am
well pleased, hear ye him."

During the time leading up to
the crucifixion of Jesus Christ,
we should, as Christians, con-
tinually search our hearts. As
we are reminded again and
again of the sacrifice Christ
made for us, we ought to be
drawn closer to Him. It should
lead us to a greater dedica-
tion of our hearts and lives to
Him. As we attend Sunday
School and the worship ser-
vices we are giving ourselves
an opportunity to open our
hearts and lives to Him.
You are invited to attend
Sunday School at 9;45 and
the morning worship at 11
o'clock at the McKenzie Uni-
ted Methodist Church. The
pastor will bring the message,
"What Shall I Do With Jesus?"
for the service. The evening
worship is at 5 o'clock with
the pastor bringing the mes-
sage, "Jesus Power Over De-
mons." The adults will
meet for choir practice at 6
o’clock and the young people
will meet at 7 o'clock. The
Wesleyan Service Guild will
have a covered dish supper on
Monday night honoring_th e
