Gunfight To Show
At Plaza Theatre
“The Gunfight at Dodge City,"
Thursday and Friday at the
Plaza Theatre through United
Artist release, brushes aside
some of the television gunsmoke
that has obscured the facts in a
haze of romantic inacceuracy,
and takes a shaply authentic
look at the lawman business in
the Old West. Specifically, it
deals with a segment out of the
turbulent life of that most color-
ful of the frontier marshals, Bat
Masterson.
Joel McCrea is starred as Bat,
and his co-stars are Julie Adams,
John Mclntire and Nancy Gates.
Heading the strong supporting
cast are such players as Tim
Carey, Richard Anderson and
Don Haggerty.
Bat Masterson, the hero of
“The Gunfight at Dodge City.”
was reported to have killed
twenty-six or twenty-seven men.
But years later—he admitted
that the number was three.
On more than one occasion,
Bat walked into the drawn guns
of an apponent and subdued him
with a blow of his cane. The
cane, by the way was not merely
an ornament, as “The Gunfight
at Dodge City" shows. He car-
ried it as an aid to walking from
the time when he had been shot
in the leg in a brawl in a Texas
saloon.
