Birthday Dining
Last Saturday afternoon was
the time oka delightful six course
dining given Jiy Mrs. Chester H.
Terrell to celebrate the birthday
of both herself and her daughter,
Manon. The dining room was
tastily decorated for the occasion
and the center piece was a beauti-
ful boquet of carnations. Tlfe
guests were Mesdames J. A.
Hardy, T. G. Webb and Harry
Spanell. Marion Webb, Hoi
parents. Shortly after his arrival
he was stricken with an attack of
typhoid fev#r but up to a very
short time previous to his death,
he was not considered bv his at-
tending physicians to lie in any
immediate danger.
Mr. Glenn (L. G.) Kokernot
was a young man of many ster-
ling traits of character and to
those who enjoyed his friendship
Of a retir-
ing nature, he was not much of a
mixer, but after one gained his
confidence, he could count on his
aid and assistance. For the past
four years the writer has been in-
timately associated with the de-
ceased and no one knew his esti-
mable traits or appreciated his
friendship more than we did.
Not having quite reached his
thirtieth birthday, his career had
hardly begun, and the sudden
call of the Master came as a thun-
derbolt from the sky.
Survived by his wife and two
infant boys, a father and several
sisters, and last but not least, his
aged grandmother who raised
him, his mother having died
when he was a small child; the
deepest sympathy of the entire
community is extended to them
in this their hour of grief.
The San Antonio Express of
Tuesday had the following ac-
count of Mr. Kokernot’s death:
L. Glenn Kokernot, a son of
the Goliad Goard of fen W*
had the following account of'the
death of Mrs. Bettie Taylor
Hord, one of Alpine's moot re-
spected ciras* which occurred
in San Antomo Feb. 18tl». The
Guard says:
'•The remains ot Mrs. Bettie
Taylor Hord were brought here
cemetery Monday
* Mr. Geo. H. Marler and Miss
Jimmie Wade, both of this city,
were united in marriage Sunday
nighr at the home of the brides
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
Wade. The bride is a charming
young woman and has a host of
friends both here and at her old
home at Ozona. The groom
came here some months ago from
Big Lake and holds a responsible
position with the Radford Gorcerv
Co. Mr. and Mrs. Marler will
land Spanell, Francie Gillett and j I«hn w* Kokernot and a leading
Virginia Hardy.
Under New Management.
The Alpine Steam Laundry is
now under new management, the
change raking' place Monday.
Mr. Thos. Imboden of El Paso
is now in charge and is assisted
bv Mr. G. W. Mathews, also of
the same city. Mr. Imboden
says he has had twenty years ex-
perience in this work and he
hopes to give Alpine people as
gooMservice as they can get any-
where.
Card af Thanks.
As J have been fortunate
enough to be entered into the
State Sanitarium of Carlsbad,
Texas, I will no longer have to
call on the good people of Alpine
for assistance, but I wish to thank
each and every one for their many
kindness* shown me during my
stay at this place and pray that
God may bless you and help you.
