Lost ring found
after 10 years
when Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Norris lived in a house on
East Beech Street in Celina
Mrs. Norris lost a sterling
silver chain ring which had
been given her by her hus-
band in 1939. Diligent
searches for the ring
yielded no results and Mrs.
Norris regretfully gave up
the search.
In the intervening years
the Norris family sold the
Beech Street house, built
another one on West Oak,
sold that and moved to a
new house in the country.
Last week Mrs. Bennie
Wester, who with her hus-
band now lives in the
Beech Street house, un-
earthed the ring while she
was cultivating a flower
bed near the house. En-
graved initials on two ster-
ling silver hearts attached
to the small chain gave
Mrs. Wester a clue to the
ring’s owner, and she called
Mrs. Norris, who readily
identified it.
Ten years in the earth
had not damaged the ring,
which was as shiny as new
after the dirt was rinsed
off.
Man’s hand
caught in gm
A ginner at the Celina
co-op gin Saturday night
got his right hand caught
in a gin saw and the result-
ing mangling wounds re-
quired 65 stitches to close.
The victim was Joe
Mikulec Jr., Robstown man
who had been working at
the gin only a few days.
Asked if he planned to
go back home right away,
Mikulec, whose arm is
heavily bandaged and in a
sling, replied that he would
remain for the present
under the care of a local
doctor who is treating the
wound.
Mikulec said he was
probably pretty lucky, that
the whirling saw very eas-
ily could have taken the en-
tire arm and shoulder. He
said the doctor told him he
probably would not lose
any of the hand, but that
some of the fingers must
remain stiff and numb for
the rest of his life.
G.V. Bray sells

local merchant, furniture
dealer for 10 years, and
mayor of Celina, last week
sold his furniture and ap-
pliance store on the east
side of the square to a
group headed by Howell’s
home furnishings store in
McKinney.

in the Celina venture are

Scott, Celina morticians,
who will manage the store.
The new owners have
already taken charge of the
business.
Mr. Bray came to Celina
from Van Alstyne Jan. 1,
1932, as manager of Mar-
tin-Keefe-Bray Co., dry
goods merchants. He sub-
sequently bought all of the
store and changed the
name to Bray’s. About 10
years ago he sold his dry
goods store to H.C. Kinman
and went into the furniture
business, which is the busi-
ness he sold last week.
An untiring civic and
church worker, Mr. Bray
has been mayor of Celina
since 1952. He had previ-
ously served two terms in
that office from 1942-1946.
The former mayor said
Wednesday he certainly
didn’t intend to quit work
— that after a brief rest
and maybe a trip to see
some kinfolks in a distant
state he would be back at
work again — at something
or other. Meanwhile he has
rented an office in a build-
ing just north of the store
he ran for so long.
The Howell firm con-
sists of J. Lee Howell, for-
mer county commissioner,
and his sons, Laud Howell
and Dwayne Howell. They
were in the general mer-
chandise business in We-
ston 22 years and in home
furnishings business in
McKinney nine years. They
have a 20,000-square feet
store and a 10,000-feet
warehouse in McKinney.
“We will offer only
highly styled lines, priced
right,” said Laud Howell,
“and feel that our quantity
buying will give us a dis-
tinct advantage in serving
Celina people.”
Mr. Morgan and Mr.
Scott moved to Celina in
1959, when they bought
the Helms funeral home.
They have since operated
the funeral home on the
south side of the square.
“We are confident Celina
has a bright future,” said
Mr. Morgan Wednesday,
“that’s the reason we are
expanding our interests
here.”
Fire destroys home
of Florinea Rhodes
Fire Wednesday about
11 a.m. destroyed the home
of Florinea Rhodes on East
Ash Street.
Some insurance was
carried on the house. Cause
of the fire was said to have
been children playing with
matches.
Wilsons buy
drive-in grocery
Mr. and Mrs. Bally Wil-
son are the new proprietors
of the drive-in grocery store
on East Pecan Street which
for several years had been
operated by Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Young. They took
over the store from C.H.
Doggett of Gunter, who re-
tained it only a few days
after buying it last week-
end from Mr. and Mrs.
Young.
The Wilsons say they
will keep the store open
seven days a week.
Mrs. Bunch
breaks arm
Mrs. Bryant Bunch is
resting very well this week
following a fall at her home
near Celina Sunday when
she broke a bone in her left
forearm. She made a mis-
step and fell on a back
porch.
