Top, this sign proclaims the start of the 2011 football season at Bobcat Stadium. The Celina football team began two-a-days
Monday, with the team’s season-opener set for Aug. 26 against Carrollton Ranchview. The Bobcats have question marks at
multiple positions and will get a better look at new players Friday when the Bobcats travel to Fort Worth Nolan for a 7:30 p.m.
scrimmage. Above right, it takes lightning footwork to be a varsity Celina Bobcat football player. Here the coaches put the Bob-
cats through their paces during two-a-day practice on Wednesday. Above left, head coach Butch Ford inspires his players dur-
ing two-a-day practice at Bobcat Stadium.

Special to The Record
The recent deaths of Americans serving in
Afghanistan have inspired many Americans to say
thanks to their families and to those still serving.
The problem is many Americans do not know how to
do that. They don’t know anyone currently serving in
the military and have no way to make that connection.
Those serving in the military need to hear those posi-
tive messages of encouragement but there is a discon-
nect between the two groups.
A former Celina resident has created a way to
bridge that gap. Earlier this year, Alan Burks created
the website, ClothoftheNation.org, to provide a way for
Americans to send messages of thanks and encourage-
ment to those serving in the military.

Members of the unit in which 2nd Lt. Peter H. Burks served pose with a
few of the packages they have received from those involved with the Un-
sung Hero Fund. After Burks was killed in Iraq, his father, former Celina
resident Alan Burks, founded the fund to send care packages to soldiers
serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. This year, Alan Burks founded Cloth of
the Nation, a website for civilians to send messages of thanks and en-
couragement to those in the military. He encourages people to visit the
site, clothofthenation.org, to say thanks.
