Scouts headed to Wichita Mountains on Sunday
By Amber Rylant
Staff Writer
Boy Scout Troop 41 and Cub Scout
Pack 41 headed out for the Wichita
Mountains Sunday, March 14th for
a four-day camp out. The five-hour
journey will be the first outing for the
Cooper Scout group. Scout Master
Michael Rowe hopes that each boy will
meet the requirements needed to make
First Class Scout.
The Scouts will be staying at the
Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge in
Oklahoma and will be learning how to
select a good campsite for a tent, basic
first aid, safe hiking skills and will be
taught to “leave not trace”, a basic scout
motto. All of the scouts are looking
forward to the trip. When asked what
they were looking forward to the most
the boys yelled in unison “The hike!”
One of the requirements for the trip
was for each boy to pack what they
thought was necessary for the camp
out without aid from their parents or
scoutmaster. Rowe wanted the boys to
learn to depend on themselves and learn
to think about what is really important
when in the wilderness.
Rowe states, “I want each boy to get
a feel for real camping, to learn what
they need for a camp out, to learn safe
hiking skills and to learn how to always
be prepared.”

Dare I say it? Has Spring finally
arrived? Signs are becoming more
abundant. Forsythia and japonica are
blooming, trees are beginning to green
and the song birds are singing again.
But Winter has a way of mounting one
last stand. I hope it does not freeze the
fruit trees in bloom but I guess we have
to take it as it comes.
Phillip and Allie Stone had daughter
Sharon Jordan and daughter-in-law
Louise Stone visiting on Sunday. Also
visiting this week were Larry Jordan and
Glen Stone.
and her husband Bimbo visiting on
Saturday to help “Mama”. Patricia
also heard from Ricky and Rebecca by
phone. It’s official!! Rebecca Anderson
is entered in the 3-day race sponsored by
the Susan G. Komen Foundation. She
needs sponsors, though, to earn money
in the fight against cancer. You can
get more information on her Facebook
page.
Jerry and Faye Robnett were
celebrating several days without
more rain! Also, Faye got a “clean”
report from her most recent CAT scan.
Wanda Helms and family had a
birthday lunch Sunday. The honorees
were Jacob (birthday on Sunday), Leah
(birthday on Tuesday) and Nichole
(birthday on Saturday). Nichole’s
celebration was a bit early because of a
wedding to be held on Saturday (wonder
whose?) leaving no time for a birthday
lunch next Sunday!
Larry George happily reports that
his dad is out of the hospital. Larry
brought him home Friday and they were
enjoying Dr. Pepper floats on Sunday
when I called.
Patricia Blundell had daughter Tina Congratulations, Faye!
