The driver of the truck
was identified as 35-year-
old Jesse Sims who told of-
ficers he didn’t know the
trailer was stolen.
“The officers took state-
ments from Mr. Sims and
we forwarded them to the
district attorney’s office
for review,” Depresca said.
“We know where to locate
him if a warrant is is-
sued.”
The trailer was returned
to its owner, Depresca
said.

What has impressed me
most is that this person

Fire_

the house was burning,
but seeing a Momma run-
ning through the hallway
with the kids; it looked
like a scene out of a movie,
like she was running out
of the mouth of Hell,”
Adam said.
Once outside, Adam was
injured by debris from the
burning house.
“Part of the bathroom
wall was made of these
decorative glass blocks
that you can’t see through,
but the heat burst them
and I was running
through the glass and
didn’t know it,” Adam
said.
More importantly,
Adam said it was terrible
watching his children wit-
ness the event.
“My daughter watcher
her bedroom and her ted-
dy bears burn,” Adam
said. One of the firemen
got a teddy bear out of his
truck and she won’t part
with it.”
In addition to losing all
of their material posses-
sions, the family lost their
pets.
“My daughter had a pet
hamster, my son had six
turtles in a big aquarium,
and we had to puppy Pit-
bulls,” Adam said. “Since
the fire, Serenity’s wanted
to talk about it but gets up-
set. I just answer the ques-
tions she asks.”
The children take
karate with Carthage Vol-
unteer Firemen Craig
Cain.
“To see Mr. Cain putting
out their house fire meant
the world to them,” Adam
said. “They look up to him
so much.”
Adam believes the fire
began with the wiring
near the central air and
heating unit.
“I’m not an electrician
by any means, but the unit
itself wasn’t burning, it
was burning right in front
of it,” Adam said.
Reflection began when
the family had time
alone.
“We had time to sit and
talk,” Adam said. “I think
it’s normal for the family
to start asking what could
we have done, could we
have responded better,
why was the water hose
burnt in half, but you get
out of that mood and move
on.”
The family is staying
temporarily in a smaller
home on the property and
intends to either rebuild
or buy a mobile home. The
home was not insured at
the time of the fire.
“It took a total of about
45 minutes and the whole
house was completely gut-
ted,” Adam said. “We’ve
been together for 14 years;
we’ll make it.”
The response from the
community has been ex-
cellent, Adam said.
“The way the communi-
ty has responded and
blessed us shows how
awesome this community
is,” Adam said. “I wish I
could personally thank
the whole community. I’ve
never seen a community
respond like this.”

Please Vote
PAUL BREVARD
for Panola County Clerk
Integrity ★ Experience ★ Dedication
My name is Paul
Brevard and I am
asking for your vote to
hire me as your next
Panola County Clerk.
I have truly enjoyed
all of the forums
I have attended,
and appreciate
the Republican
and Democratic
groups here in
Panola County
for providing that
service to the public.
I do feel that I need to address a question that has been
posed to me several times since the Democratic forum
that was held for the Republican candidates.
People are asking me if I was the candidate for County
Clerk that wants to remodel the office. I was not. That
was the answer my opponent, Rhonda Birdsong, gave
when we were asked if there were any changes that we
wanted to make to the County Clerks office.
She was the first to respond to that question and stated
that she would like to change up the office by moving
the desk to the center of the room and closer to the
counter. She said that she had several other changes to
make, but did not elaborate on them.
Talk of her remodeling idea has been spreading like
a wildfire, and people are asking me if I also want to
remodel the office. My answer is a resounding NO!
Those desks are built into the walls and floors. This
would require the desk to be torn out of the walls,
carpet would need to be replaced because the desk
are anchored into the floor, the computer and phone
systems would need to be moved. This would be a
pretty major job. I would only guess that this would
cause tens of thousands of dollars to be added to the
County Clerks budget because I know for a fact that
this project is not within our county budget, nor will it
be placed in the budget if I am elected.
I do not plan on spending a single tax dollar in
remodeling nor adding any new equipment to our
County Clerks office. I believe that the office is in
great shape and will suit our purpose for many years
to come. This office was a new expansion when I was
working at the court house, and I will be able to serve
the public extremely well with the current facility. As
far as my personal scanning system for the public to
use, it will not cost the tax payers a single penny. I am
donating the equipment needed since I currently use
this in my own business. The only time we will ever
need to ask for new equipment in my office will be if
we are required to do so in order to stay in compliance
with the state, if the old equipment fails, or if the
county requires me to use a new system to satisfy their
requirements. Now as to my experience I have the
rare ability to say that I have worked both sides of the
COUNTY CLERKs counter for a combined 15 years.
I have dedicated over 1/3 of my life to this work, and I
promise to make each of you extremely proud that you
entrusted your vote in me.
I have been a Project Manager for one of the largest
land men companies in the state of Texas and have
overseen crews working in both Texas and Louisiana.
I have worked with budgets as large as $700 million
dollars and have always come in under budget and
with a smaller crew than they expected. I have always
had one of the most productive and efficient crews and
know what it takes to supervise an office of this nature.
This job is not an easy one. It is not an office that you
just apply for without experience. Even though I have
15 years of continuous, unbroken experience on both
sides of the counter, years of experience as a supervisor,
and feel that I am extremely well rounded to be the
best Clerk possible, I would never be so bold as to say
that I could walk in and immediately fill the shoes of
someone that has been working for this county for 28
years, as Clara Jones has. No one can honestly make
that claim, but I will do the best anyone possibly can.
Those records are precious to me. They have fed my
family for 15 continuous years, tell the history of this
county, and I will be a good custodian of them for the
next Clerk that takes my place.
One last thing. If you would like to know my political platform, that one is easy. Here it is, word for word!
1. The Bible (John 3:16 ends all religious arguments. I am covered by His blood!)
2. The Constitution of the United States of America
3. The Bill of Rights
4. The Amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America
If you don’t want either (your gun or your baby), please send them my way for plenty of love and affection.
If you want to take my guns or kill unborn children, don’t expect my support or vote; simple enough.
Thank you, and God Bless!!
